The phenomenon of William Hung is more than just "eeeeewww look at that ugly asian guy, lets all laugh at him".
What Will Hung represents is a big middle finger to the record companies and their manufactured superstars. He is not just some loser that crashed out of American Idol with everyone rubbernecking and laughing at him.
Yes, he makes us laugh. He also entertains us, and that is what good singers do right? The humility and grace with which he handled himself in the face of ridicule is a proud testament to our race, especially in contrast to how the angmos reacted.
I, for one do not feel he disgraced us. To the contrary in fact. -
