haha same as u , got army driving lincence for around 8 months b4 getting me own lincence from outside , after pass parents dont let me use their car , b4 they even let me drive alone , my parents sat in de car while i drove , i think they quite impress , cos walau , 5 ton can drive , small car more easy leh , most of de time can borrow de car except for fri , sat , sun nights cause they scare i drink and drive when go clubbing .

how can u prove tat u r a safe n careful driver? i m sure out of those drivers who got killed in car accidents last year, 50% of them would had said they were safe n careful drivers too. n EXPERIENCED too.
the fact tat ur parents allow u to drive during family outings means to a certain extent they do trust u with the car n they r using such outings to judge ur "zai-ness" in handling the car. well after 11 mths, if they still cannot trust u alone, it just means one thing...they feel tat u r not "zai" enuff, at least not as "zai" as u think u r...which is a problem all prob drivers face though cos we think we r so damn good just becos we managed to pass our driving test.
y do i use we? cos i m also a prob driver.
rite now i drive the car for family outings too...the 1st few mths after i pass my driving was bad though. my dad didnt even allow me to drive out to the neighbourhood shopping mall alone...n tats only a 2 mins drive away. however, after 7 mths, he is slightly more relaz now cos i have clocked up more driving experience n i have driven the car out without them for suppers n mid-nite movies.
it will still take time to convince them to let me go further (like drive down to town or work when the car is not in use) but i know each step is an improvement so i will just wait lor... -

actually, my dad also dun let me drive his car alone...
i got my licence about 1+ years liaoz..
but i will get to drive the car when we go out together.. but not very often..
at 1st i really wonder why i am not allow...
but there are always some reasons u know...
1st : your skills may not be really tat good enough to cope with the really busy traffic in singapore, cos driving in practices is really very different in driving alone...
2nd : MY DAD very young, his hobby = well kept his car.. he spend a lot money and time on his car very very stingy to his car.. a little bit here and there also cannot... but the car is very comfortable cos he will always polish wash his car .. very well kept.. got TV got DVD very nice.. sometimes i dun even like to drive cos i wanna watch movie ..

3rd : the insurance for car is damn expensive..
if (touch wood) some how really get into acccident.. hope driver nothing happen, but the car XXXXXX ... need a lot of money repair will claim insurance rite? then the next insurance will increase to about 100%... so its really expensive..
so relax you will have one day when you get to drive alone... -
mayb can juz buy COE cars lor, if u really want to drive so much... 0 drive away cars... 1 month ard 400+ towards $500 bucks.... but must prepare for repairs lar.. cos COE cars cfm need to service 1....
of course if u not over 21 years old, cannot use ur name, and to loan, u need ur father's name and a guarantor(depending on ur financial status of the family) -

- i do not speed, in fact i drive slowly
- i do not lane hop
- i always give way to other cars
- i do not overtake
- i keep a substantial distance behind the car in front of me
and well, my probation ending in 1 month, and i have not even driven out of the carpark alone... i do not claim to b a VERY GOOD or ZAI driver technically, but i will nv b unless i drive often rite? if i onli get to drive during outings, tt will be around twice a month like i said? twice a month will nv help me to improve!
