Hatchback under 61K. Any suggestions?

  Agree, also I have saved up quite a bit for a decent down-payment.
  But after some advice from friends around, maybe I will have problem supporting a car now.
  
  So I think I am going to settle for the Kelisa. Until I find a girlfriend or improved my driving skills (to the level of being able to feel the car), I guess I will stick with the small car.

  hmm.... if the location of your house and your office is very accessible by public transport, maybe u can consider Off-peak car... at least save u off $17k, tax and insurance...
  
  but if u live and work at some wulu place, or u need to drive during office hours, then ignore the sentences above... hehe

  Did anyone mention Hyundai Matrix... probably a bargain hatchback below <60k. If u had the money to get kelisa now why not save up for a year or so for a korean/japanese make... definitely worth the wait.

  why do u want to buy a car if u have just $1.5k cash every mth? Even worse -- u r thinking of buying a new car! cars soak up ur money in no time. Insurance easily cost $2.8k at ur age and zilch driving experience ie. amortisation of $233 pm. Then road tax of 1.5l = $900+ pa or $75pm. There goes $300. Plus petrol? with rising oil prices, u shld easily clock $200-300 pm on petrol costs. That means altogether $500-600 extra pm, w/o thinking abt the instalment or even parking.
  if u really really want a car, start with a 2nd hand and very old one. renew COE one. no choice. how abt nissan march? there is one selling for $13400, COE ends Feb 06.

  Hi Fairlady, thanks for your concern.
  Actually I have around $2k cash. $500 for family is adjustable.
  
  If getting kelisa, the maintence, petrol and road tax become lower. I have asked a senior kelisa user and he quoted about $4999 per year without installment. He also did the breakdown and I think it is quite reasonable. Anyway I am going to down 20k, so my installment is about 500 per month for 5 years. So I think I am still fine.
  
  Also I still have around 10k left after the initial downpayment.

  Hi wbucket, sorry, i have been a bit harsh. bcos i myself is a car owner and i have seen money just gushing out so really heart pain. and so dun want to see unsuspecting aspiring carowners like u kanna trapped. especially now that car prices plunged recently as taxes, import duties and COE dropped, my car depreciated $30k over <2 yrs just like that. really heart pain. i can afford it, but money shldnt be wasted like tat.

  Understand. But those who wants to buy a car, most likely it is for fun, comfort and convenience. So if you are talking about how worth-it it is to buy a car, you can't judge in terms of money. Because recently the COE downed so much, that is why the depreciation is so much. If you wait another 1-2 years, the depreciation rate will improve.
  
  That is why I always think about riding the car for as long as I can. That will save me the lose when I try to sell it off as second-hand car.
