i jus pass my driving test for less than a month.i want to buy a car but i have very limited budget of only 400 to 500 per month.i also heard that no company would wan to insure me unles i pay a very high price.

Yes, you can expect a 2-3k insurance if you are about 25 years old, more if you are younger. 500 per month, if that is the max you can produce, I guess you better save-up some money first.
For reference, I am earning 2.9k, take home 2.3. I saved 40k before getting the cheapest car in Singapore. Now I have practically no saving per month. -

At least $1000 per month... and that's to spend on the car ONLY... still have to add cash for your own expenditure, food and spending, unless you everyday drive to work, then drive home, eat home cooked food everyday... Just remember you need to squeeze at least S$500 per month for the car, less the installment. -
You might think you don't mind the financial sufferings of car ownership now, but when you grow older, old enough to "see" things better, you'd think differently.
Many things changes in a person's lifetime.
Remember what I just said when you're in your late 30s or early 40s.
It would make sense then.... -
How much are u drawing from ur salary now?
$400-$500 per mth for a car, even for a 2nd hand, is virtually impossible. Unless u are telling me that u intend to keep ur car at home, else >50% of what u are setting aside is just going into the petrol. Not to forget ur season parking coupons and cashcard expenses. And oh yes, the biggest killer: Monthly Installment. Unless u are downing 100% cash for the car.
However, if ur company is willing to pay u a car allowance every month, then things will change from there. -

Hullo friend, I am just stating some facts there. Meant to discourage you actually, since you say you just passed means that your car insurance definitely >$2000 just for one year. For your info, I passed more than 10 years liao, but only started driving 2 years ago (having my own car), insurance also about $1.1K. You do your maths ok?
Other costs: (for my case Picanto)
Downpayment $10k
Instalment: $400 per month
Insurance: $1.1K
Road Tax: $500 - $600+ per year
Season Parking: $60+ per month
Petrol: $300+
Servicing: Depends (1K, 5K, and 10K all definitely needs $$$), and let's not 4get about accidents, etc...
Miscellaneous: Car wash ($6), Grooming accessories ($$$), etc.....
Also for your info, with your current expectations, maybe you can try a COE car (>10 years old car). BUT the servicing will kill you. Plus, all the replacement parts is going to cost a bomb too! (Sometimes as much as $300-$400 for faulty parts such as air con compressor spoil, alternator spoil, etc) Speaking from experience, as my first car is a COE car. Sometimes, you may be better off buying a new car, really!
Currently, earning $4k +, so I can say that it is still well within my ability to afford. But try not to be a slave to the car. All of us here geniunely hope that you know what is the sensible solution. What for you buy a car now, and end up no money for your own insurance(very very important!), no money to save for your wedding (who wants to marry a poor man?
), and no money to live in a HDB (unless your parents going to support you even after your marriage). You see my point? -

Of course. The later you get your car, the more savings you have, the more you can downpay, the less you need to cough out per month later. Interest for 10 years is not joke. For the mean time, do make it a point to save like you have a car. Meaning die, die that 500 goes to bank. You touch it, you lose, no car. Try to live like this, then you see if you can comfortably set 500 per month on cars. i am very intersted in car since i was young.i quit secondary jus to get into ITE for automotive .so i wish to get a car learn it detaily and modify it but SERIOUSLY not for racing purpose jus wan to get to know more bout cars n stuff and maybe open a garage as famous as garage r.so this is my dream my life a hope i have set for myself in this short life i have here.
