hi guys.. i noe failing is boring and especially when failing for many times.. but be a little careful when u take the next test and have confidence.. dun fumble and u'll do just fine.. i myself failed 4 times..

failed 4 times...6 mths to test for 1st time. 3 mths to test for 2nd time. if lets say 3 mths each for 3rd n 4th time....does it take another year and end up there's a need to retake final theory?
i am waiting to take my 2nd attempt in feb....hope pass.

passed only on third time. I guess there are too many factors that affect your pass/fail. things like the tester himself (mood), traffic on the road and hazards... not easy, yet not difficult to handle also..

I strongly agree that it really depends on the instructor. Any recommendation for private instructor? who are good and charging at a resonable price? Coz i know that some instructor are not responsible.

I currently learning 2 drive. My instructor once said (or accidentally said?) that some testers giv demerit pts not becos u really do sumtin wrong, but becos the method u use is sumtin the tester personally dislikes. Anyway, sun19888, u asking for instructor for driving lessons, or for a practical driving test tester? The tester during the tp wont be the same person who givs the driving lessons what....
Anyway, i already underwent 13 driving lessons but i'm yet 2 be taught how 2 U-turn, reverse and park. Does this mean i'm a 'slow learner'? What's the average number of 1.5h lessons that's needed b4 they teach Uturn, reverse and parking?
Fyi, i taking private instructor who is also an instructor wth the Comfort Driving school. He's systematic, stern & have high expectations. But one thing that really irritates me is he often scolds me while i drive until i cant concentrate properly on my driving!!As a result, sometimes i make driving mistakes & end up kena scold by him again. Wahlau eh, he indirectly causes me 2 make mistake, he still scolds me!
I know i'm not perfect, i know sometimes i'm quite stubborn & it sometimes makes him mad, but when i nicely explained that i cant concentrate if he scolds me while i'm driving, he scolded me again, saying that i should know how 2 multitask!!
Plus i feel we often have miscommunication--his and my English isnt bad but somehow our english r not on the same frequency. He's always saying that i'm "accusing him of sumtin". Whatdefuck man! So sometimes i try not to say much cos when i say sumtin, he often misinterpretes, in the end looked like my fault, not fair liao!
But sometimes no choice must ask him questions when i in doubt abt sumtin. Sometimes lagi worse, ask him question he scold, dont ask him question also kena scold.
But what to do.....i must endure lor...soemtimes want 2 cry also must tahan. And i want 2 cry not becos i scared of him liao; but just angry wth him 4 misunderstanding me. Ya la, he teacher, i student, he do sumtin wrong also it looks like my fault. People say must treat all this as a 'learning experience'. So no choice but to tahan lor... -
Sometimes i also feel that way too. My instructor is not bad lah, but i just hate the way he nags/scolds me while i drive. Sometimes the way he scold/nags @ me i can tell that he like wants to find fault. Like, once he said "good, u've improved" but another time he said "u never improved u know?" Wahlau from one word already i can tell he beginning 2 scold anyhow one. But i tink most probably i wont change instructor, mainly becos i cant be bothered to adapt to a new car and instructor. Plus how am i gonna tell him that i dont want him as my instructor anymore? my instructor got scared when he heard that i want to take back my PDL and test fee fr him after 2 phonecalls today. (coz since last time's failure....he offered to help me register a date. and i just gave him my PDL and fee on the spot).
On the first phonecall, in my horror he said March 2004 is the next available date....becoz why??? he said he will be at overseas.the RIGHTFUL available dates are end of Jan 2004 and Feb 2004 (officially published online)....
I told him, I checked the website and comfort driving centre next available date is Feb 2004. He said it is not true. He insisted March. so i ended the call and brainstormed...
come to think of it, probably it is a good chance to gain a 2nd opinion...though i have to baleh get used to another car...but i have tolerated enuff of this instructor...
i called him again and told him that i want my pdl back...then he sensed sth fishy and beginning to brainwash me to stay with him...i told him i got a tight schedule next year as i am studying part time next yr....but he also have no choice lah...
the next thing he was abt to say really pissed me off! i hear him flipping thru his stuffs and he tells me now that Feb 2004 is available...
i still remembered last time he told me: "It's your fault that I cant fit another student into the monday schedule!"

I used to have a fierce and high demanding instructor also. It's like that. Even my clutch biting point also have to be that perfect that the car should not 'jump' when you are at the biting point. He is my fix instructor and sometimes I will be so pressurized by him that I feel like changing to another instructor... but I didn't in the end. Now that I've passed, I looked back and think. Realized that what he had taught me are skills that are actually very useful when you are driving alone...

By the way, reading many of ur msgs about circuits make me kancheong leh....i driving (lessons) for 3 mths already how come my instructor hasnt brought me into a circuit ah ? All this while my lessons r on the road liao...i did ask my instructor about circuit but he was like "Ur driving still so bad u dare ask about circuit ah?" Donolah wats wrong wth this fella; ask him so nicely also he replied sarcastically.
So anyone can enlighten me about when a learner driver with private instructor is brought into a circuit 2 drive? -

Last time i also learn private. The instructor starting already teach me U turn, parking. So i learn U turn and parking from the beginning to the end. Yours is strange, U-turn should be ok but parking u need time to get the timing.
Aiya. looks like all instructor same one la.... suan you until u feel like u really sux. However, what they said is because they can drive normal liao but u r new bird and every thing ka lang ka bo, instructor see liao bei tahan thats why they start to kao bei kao bu. Like i said, my instructor actually very good. I know there are skills he teaches me that will benefit me & i really appreciate that. But sometimes i wonder, what if i'm simply a slowlearner or not meant to be a gd driver? Sometimes i feel the combination of me and my 'prefectionist' instructor is simply detrimental for me. He sometimes say i "have no confidence" just becos the way i drive look like i'm not confident(even though i am actually confident). I passed my driving test w 10 points. But it was on my 4th attempt.
Its important to get a good instructor who gives clear explanations and not just issue instructions. My first instructor - not only called me "stupid" and said things like "EVERY DAY same old mistake", he would not explain his instructions. When I asked for explanation, he would say "I'm the instructor. You just listen to what I say". So I had to draw my own conclusions from what he said. When I flunked my first test, he laughed!! He laughed harder when I failed the 2nd time.
I switched instructors one month before my next test. My old instructor was very angry and told the new one that I failed because I'm stubborn and stupid, as the new instructor would find out for himself! (I so sway one day driving lesson with new instructor met old instructor who blocked car, so that new instructor had to get out of car to talk to him!). New instructor - face very stern. Only time he smiled was when I passed.
But he was very encouraging and kept telling me "don't give up hope. Each time you drive, you improve". he explained his instructions and would ask me to repeat to make sure I understood. He told me that I had to unlearn a lot of stuff and doubted that I would pass the test, just 1-mth away. I said I would give it a try. I got 30 points! My instructor told me "good attempt. The next one you will surely pass. You just need a little more time".
Well I passed on my next attempt, 3 months later! I said "finally, after 4 times" and he replied "Don't feel bad that you took so long to get the licence. It helps to make you a better driver" - so encouraging. He said there are some people who pass on their first attempt but because they only had a few months of driving lessons, they panick when they drive alone.
People told me that my driving is pretty good and I don't drive like new driver. i say, yah wat, 4 attemps, wat so new?!
Ok, sorry for this long story. the gist of it is - perservere! You will get your licencse and all this time of extra instructions is a big help in giving you confidence on the road when you drive alone. -

i finally passed my driving test on the 2nd attempt.
to say the examiner almost tricked me to make a left turn that will result in failing the test...and i really had to tell him indirectly he confused me from that moment onwards...i missed out the U-turn sign, almost forgot to avoid bus lane...
haha no choice but to keep apologising....said i was made so nervous...
anyway, during the post briefing...he took out the test checklist and ticked many boxes...i tot i sure fail one...heng manz 18pts. -

Passed on the fifth attempt. Not to discourage anyone or anything, just be presistent and never give up. You give up = you waste time + money.
Like what the other people said, drive carefully and practice alot until you are confident. What testers want to see :
1. Confidence(not driving recklessly mind you)
2. Try to complete circuit without demerits
3. Check the mirrors(Just check the mirrors, be kia-su a bit)
4. Chose a good time where there are less cars on the road
5. Be very alert and watch for dangers or hazards
This is as much as I can think of. Good luck to your tests!! Remember, don't give up!! -
Passed on third attempt 10 years back. Don't be discourage, try and try again.
Main thing is all instructors and tp testers always look for safety driving habits you possess during driving. So be sure that is one of the top piority you should build up.
Just have a clear mind what are the procedures when doing the circuit and be positive and stay focus. Run thru the procedures b4 the test helps too, but don't panick. You never know, you may just pass even if you felt you did badly and sure to fail on that day.
Be positive, you can get back your inspiration to pass by looking at yourself driving a car of your own. Oh! And never argue with the instructors and testers, you will be black listed somehow. Good luck !! -
Haizzzz... taking my driving test in the next few days, this is my 1st attempt. i am very scare until i cant even sleep well. Can anyone give me some tips on what should i do? and some advise during the test?? my test time got bus lane and in ubi.

I passed my driving test on 2nd try. 1st test, I too kan cheong. Just 3 weeks before my 2nd test, I drove everyday, and on the test day itself, I went through the circuit twice. So practice makes perfect. You can also make it, just need more practices.

obviously private...
my instructor told me about how other drivers can cause you to fail as well...
for example, you've just enough space to stop in front of a yellow box... then some errant driver SUDDENLY cuts into your path leaving you stuck in the yellow box..

I passed with my first go -
i passed on 3nd attempt..1st attempt 44 demerit points..haha..so far think i highest..keke..oh my advice to those who takin thier test..dress properly..dun let the old TP fail u even before u r in the driver's seat..another thing is all those who make it to the test can drive..its all abt luck that day..Good Luck guys...
