Somewhat surprised that my last Facebook post has been enough to trigger a response from the Attorney-General's Chambers in Singapore. This post was shared on "Friends only" privacy settings on Saturday (20 likes at the time of this writing). Apparently, that's enough to warrant three newspaper articles and a statement by the Attorney-General's Chambers that they're "looking into it". I'm surprised that the Singapore government is so petty. Would they also like to trawl my private Facebook feed for seditious vacation photos?  By the way - the official media inaccurately reports that the post was "uploaded on Saturday and later taken down". It's never been taken down - if you're among my Facebook friends you can see it just below this one.

And here's the awesome fight scene by Wu Jing (a younger associate of Jet Li and Donnie Yen, all 3 of whom have professional rivalry in the martial art actors industry, though Donnie Yen has clearly come out on top, with his embrace of MMA and BJJ in particular... Jet Li has become something of a disappointment to his fellow Singaporeans) from the "Legendary Assassin" movie.

Interestingly, the sequel SPL 2 wasn't actually a sequel, as Wu Jing's character died in SPL 1, so SPL 2 was a totally unrelated story, starring Wu Jing, Tony Ja and Max Zhang Jin. Check out the SPL 2 finale fight scene :

There's politics everywhere, even in Hollywood.
Marvel sold the movie rights of the various Marvel characters to different movie studios. Sony owns the screen rights to Spiderman, but is willing (for self-preservation) to work with Marvel's own studio (which retains the rights to Avengers) for the latest Spiderman movie, bringing Spiderman into the Avengers universe. On the other hand, 20th Century Fox which owns the screen rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, as well as Universal Pictures which owns the screen rights to Hulk, both refuse to work with Marvel's own studio to merge with the Avengers universe. Based on the latest ticket sales to Spiderman, Sony is laughing at rivals Fox and Universal.

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - Authorities and activists on Monday questioned why Minneapolis police who fatally shot an Australian woman over the weekend claimed they did not have their body cameras turned on during the incident.
Justine Damond's American fiance also wondered about the details of how she was shot. She had called the police to report a suspected sexual assault near her home, fiance Don Damond told reporters outside the home.

The singer R. Kelly has denied claims that he keeps a household of young women in a "cult" atmosphere.
The 50-year-old has been accused of running a “cult� of young aspiring female musicians, living in a series of houses in Atlanta and Chicago, and forbidden from using their own mobile phones.
Two sets of parents have gone to the police to try and win back their daughters, who approached the 50-year-old with the aim of furthering their music careers, and ended up estranged from their families.
The police have investigated, but the girls insist they are in love with Kelly. And, as they are over the age of consent, there is nothing that law enforcement can do.

To prevent your child growing up with a life-long (and potentially fatal) allergy of tree nuts and peanuts, there is increasing evidence that exposing your young toddler to small amounts of tree nuts and peanuts at a very young age, can help to prevent your child from developing an allergy to tree nuts and peanuts as he/she grows older, machiam vaccinating him to confer immunity. Note that tree nut allergy is a distinct and separate allergy from peanut allergy, and small amounts of both types of nuts should be given to young toddlers at a very young age.

She's absolutely right. And not just HDB, but all housing both private and public. And not just cigarette smoke, but equally carcinogenic incense, joss stick, joss paper smoke as well. Bad karma to increase the risk of cancer in others through one's own inconsiderate, unethical and harmful actions.
Crack down on inconsiderate smoking neighbours
I am one of the HDB dwellers who have been exposed to second-hand smoke from neighbours living in the flat below.
In my case, the family of three are all chain smokers and, on weekends, they would invite their friends, who are also smokers.
They smoke in the balcony, bedrooms, kitchen and toilets with the doors and windows wide open. Ceiling fans and exhaust fans expel cigarette smoke from their flat.
Though I had been suffering from chronic respiratory infections since moving into the flat five years ago, I was unaware of the harmfulness of the second-hand smoke until a chest X-ray during a medical check up last year showed that I had a growth in my lower right lung.
A subsequent CT scan found some scarring and nodules as well.
It was a wake-up call for me to protect myself from prolonged exposure to second-hand smoke.
I wrote to the HDB, National Environment Agency and my MP for assistance.
An NEA officer visited my neighbours and advised them to exercise control in smoking so as not to affect their neighbours.
But my neighbours became angry and shouted loudly at me that they had done nothing wrong by smoking in their home. They recommended that I move out instead.
I have contemplated doing this, but there is no guarantee that I will be safe from second-hand smoke in my next flat. Whoever buys my flat would also be exposed to the smoke.
It is time for the HDB to implement a law on "smoke drift" (Protect HDB residents from second-hand smoke too, by Mr Paul Philpott; July l6).
My neighbours continue to enjoy smoking and ignore the harm their bad behaviour is causing.
Meanwhile, I am undergoing treatment for my respiratory problems. There is no one who can be held liable and who will compensate me for my medical expenses and the irreversible damage to my health.
Non-smokers breathing in second-hand smoke take in the same nicotine, carcinogens and toxic chemicals that smokers do. There is no safe level of exposure for second-hand smoke.
All HDB residents lease their flats from the HDB. As the lessor, the HDB is obligated to protect its lessees from harm by inconsiderate lessees.
Hence, it must act swiftly to protect non-smoking residents from prolonged exposure to second-hand smoke.
