Where to go for Authentic Italian?

I recently passed by a few italian restaurants and took a look at their menus. Most were disappointing, offering americanized italian fare rebounded into Singapore.
Do you guys know where to get the most authentic tasting italian (other than having an italian roomate/friend/uncle/grandma)? -

The reason I was looking for italian is because i was kinda getting sick of the trinity of pasta, pizza and baked pasta/rice. Looking for more of that everyday italian gourmet stuff. Any recommendations on whats nice to try?

Pete's place has good service, good ambience, and a lot of ang mos.
Food's decent as well. Pizzas, roasted stuff and pasta.
Another for those special occasions only.

make your own using italian ingredients. its hard to find authentic simple italian fare at good prices and besides, italian food differs from region to region

Do you think that the Italian food will be 100% genuinely Italian? I would think that it would be more "Asianized Italian food," just like the "Americanized" Chinese food in Michigan.
