Maybe coz you dunno how to appreciate the pure taste of handmade noodles. Let's not talk about the wantons or char siew, just the noodles itself.
fei fei serves the worst char siew you can find in the entire universe.![]()
i prefer those noodles that are really thin and r slightly translucent. and when u bite into them, they have something like a crunch. i hate soft n soggy noodles.
yes fei fei has horrible char siew but eventually the flavor for everything on the plate is drowned out by the gobs of chilli they dish out on it.
best wantons i find are at tanglin halt chap lau. the single level hawker centre.
what about this one?
Yi Shi Jia Shu Shi

Fei Fei wanton noodles are no longer handmade. ![]()
When the grandpa was still working at the opposite shop across the road, the noodles tasted much better.
The other 2 wanton noodles store at Dunman Road Food Centre (across from the NPP) is not too bad either, the wanton noodles closer to the rojak stall taste much better than Fei Fei, you might need to wait 20 - 30 mins during peak hours for your noodles.
I am surprised that patrons still think Fei Fei noodles are handmade. ![]()
I think it hasn't been handmade for at least 10 years already. ![]()
Expansion of Fei Fei meant that the care and personal attention to the quality of the noodles had to be sacrificed. Even though the noodles are still made to specification, it lacks that sublime quality of the personal touch. The younger brother on the other hand still goes down to the noodle factory daily to ensure that the noodles are made according to his Grandfather's recipe.

FYI, the original store which the grandpa tended to is the new 24 hour coffeeshop. The have to shift over to the other coffeeshop due to some problems with the coffeeshop owner.

I think that's the one that still uses ketchup. They have been there as long as close to 25 years. I like to eat the soup one, coz I can taste a slight bitterness in it. Same goes for their wantons, there is a slight bitter aftertaste.![]()

Actually I have not touched fei fei wanton mee for an extremely long time. But I remembered very well the taste of the noodles when I was much younger and it was the grandpa cooking it. And after it changed hands, I like totally never got the chance to eat it. Even back then, I still found the char siew was the worst in the universe.![]()

If you are for handmade wanton noodles, the one stall called ke kou in Crawford Food Centre is yummy yummy. It used to be at Farrer Park Food Centre. It only opens at night. Business is very good, gotta wait for at least half hour for it. Price: $3 and above. Wanton is fantastic, so tasty!

The wanton, sauce, noodles, char siew and soup are what wanton mee is made of.
