I think might be listeria
Coz of the surroundings
The food and gravy might not be affected coz of heat processing but the salad.....cucumbers that come with the rojak could have been containminated

i thought one of the victims (or maybe a few) said the gravy tasted odd/off - and yet they continued to chow down.

Hard to say; they're investigating as we speak.
If the stall owner is found guilty, I guess the stall owner would be fined to kingdom come and have his licence revoked. Not to mention the relatives of the victims (especially the dead woman's relatives) can sue him if he or his workers were really found to be negligent.
I'm thinking that it was most probably the gravy that was the cause. It could have been left overnight without refrigeration or reheating. Besides, the rojak pieces are normally deep-fried just before serving..... I seriously doubt that they're the source of bacteria.
That said, I'm no CSI. Let's wait and see what the investigation turns up.
Whatever the case, this is in many ways much worse than the Prima Deli saga.

SINGAPORE: Following the food poisoning outbreak at the Geylang
Serai Temporary Market, the market's management committee has decided

scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday.
All stallholders will have to close and clean their stalls on Wednesday and Thursday.

there was this episode of House, where a rat peed infected the victim with bacteria called leptospirosis. in that show, the person was "locked-in" - reduced to a paralysed state, but he is fully conscious and aware.

Oh my... like that the food centre's business will be affected... :(

Mass food poisoning case in Singapore claims second victim
SINGAPORE: The mass food poisoning outbreak involving an Indian
rojak stall at the Geylang Serai temporary market has claimed its
second victim.
Norani Kassim, 59, who was warded in Alexandra Hospital, died
shortly before 10am on Wednesday. The hospital said she was warded with
food poisoning on Saturday.
To date, the outbreak has killed another woman, 57-year-old canteen
assistant Aminah Samijo and caused a 38-year-old expectant mother,
Rosiah Samat, to miscarry.
Another 137 people have also fallen ill. The Health Ministry said
37 people were hospitalised and 100 others received outpatient
treatment when they experienced abdominal cramps, vomiting and
diarrhoea after eating at the stall.
It said two of the cases were traced to bacteria commonly found in
raw or partially cooked seafood but stressed that investigations were
ongoing.
In 2007, more than 150 people fell sick after eating cakes bought
from bakery chain Prima Deli but there were no reported deaths.
