Its the time of the year again to eat your hearts out on all those sticky rice!
On the 5th day of the 5th month in the Lunar calendar, it has been a tradition for the Chinese to celebrate and enjoy the “Rice Dumpling Festival”. Also known as “Dragon Boat Festival”. This year, the Festival falls on 28 May 2009.
The pyramid-shape dumplings are made from glutinous rice with savoury fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. Lest one thinks that rice dumplings are boring and ordinary, somehow through the years, due to the ingenuity of chefs, the traditional rice dumplings have evolved to become gourmet dumplings comprising unique ingredients that diners will certainly enjoy.
Every year, new creations are added on and of course, all these variations of rice dumplings promise to tantalise different taste buds.

Crap! Dumpling is available in sg everyday. YOu think for someone who has been out of job and in need of $$ to survive will buy that from the hotel?

Yes, I still like the old style from my mum, but I don't eat the fat. She would prepare lean meat specially for me.

Aiyah, hotels got to make some money. Always fanciful but taste some times yucks.
Still like the old style with fatty pork belly, mushrooms, chestnut, salted eggs and dried shrimps sometimes with Korean dried oysters. Yum. ![]()

so rich in ingredients. my mum's dumpling only contained meat, chestnut, mushroom, dried shriump. Taste great.

I like the dried oysters, not available generally outside. Soak the dried oysters in hot water for half an hour and rinse. Pack one piece each with the rest of the ingredients. Yummy. ![]()

my mum also likes the dried oyster. I don't like it, can't stand the smell. I prefer live oysters.

Ya the nyonya old style esp with fresh big pandan leaves that must wrap the same day as cut from plant. Those blue marble streaks is a must. ![]()

It is from the blue flower juice to mixed with the glutinous rice. Ya, don't see them often nowadays.
