seriously e supermarkets are no better.
seriously your believe they're offering weekly offers at real good prices? The normal selling price is much much expensive compared to mum and pop shops
for such cases, rental is not e issue.. it's how they manages the pricing mechanism.

seriously it's some theory
many of these land are 99 year lease. Eventually it belongs to the state.
The land ownership is unlike M'sia, mostly private land.
Not want to go into off topic

Go figure where e growth and inflation comes from ![]()

i have always wanted to say this.
why are there so many 'idiots' buying from the supermarkets? the stuff are really way too expensive. a fa deodarant is going at nearly double the price i am buying. dynamo i buy 4 ltrs at 9.9 supermarkets are selling 13.50
NTUC fairprice what. The price very fair lol. Many have this impression that because of economies of scale for bulk purchases, things will be much cheaper.
else how could they offer $9.15 at ad hoc weekly offer?
I've always hearing ppl compare mum and pop shops's selling price w/ NTUC's offer
1 week vs 51 weeks ![]()

not true
many of the distributors also do want volumes.. so they're also willing to do smaller size bulk offer for mum and pop shops who could keep stock.
Say Dynamo... For them 6 carton (18 bottles of 4.7kg Dynamo) can get e same price to head on w/ NTUC for the recent weekly offer. While NTUC has to committ say close to 1000 carton in order to get e price.
Not to forget how bulky 1000 carton of 3x 4.7kg bottles can get.
you need to go look around and figure out what is a good price in your neighbourhood..
i wandered around my office and found that hair gel going for about $11.90 is sold at $8.90 at the neighbourhood shops... shampoo going for $28.90 is sold at $22.90 at the shops too..
as for food, go to the wet markets (although they are now being taken over by Sheng Siong), go look around the produce places.. get the cheapest and best quality ones... supermarkets are good only if they have those discounts... other than that, it's just like your food courts.. they're there for convenience.. and you have to pay for that too...
