Stop calling Hawker Centers as Hawker Centre, because there are no more hawkers in Singapore, only illegal ones.
They should spend some money and organise a contest to choose a name for these centres. So that it will be uniquely Singapore.
The National Environment Agency evaluates requests for hawker centres in
housing estates based on several factors, said Environment and Water
Resources Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
Members of Parliament had earlier asked for hawker centres for their
constituencies. But some factors that must be considered include where
to locate them and how well the area is already being served by food
establishments.
On Sunday, he told The Straits Times that hawker centres should also be professionalised, with training for future hawkers.
He said: "It's not as if anyone can just walk off the street and say I'm
going to make the world's best char kway teow. There's an element of
training, exchanging of best practices and recipes. And we need in a way
to professionalise our hawker centres and our hawkers."
The next generation of hawkers in new hawker centres must also be Singaporean, he added.
The government will restart its scheme to build hawker centres in new housing estates in October.
The 10 new hawker centres that will be built are intended as
opportunities to create employment for the lower income group, said Mr
Balakrishnan.
The Environment and Water Resources Ministry has also appointed a panel
to spearhead the public consultation exercise for what future hawker
centres should be like. Members of the public can make suggestions on a
Facebook page launched last Friday.

Harry Lee's favourite Restaurant:
Guan Hoe Soon Restaurant has been serving authentic Peranakan cuisine in Joo Chiat Area since 1953.
The restaurant is set in an idyllic atmosphere where the main concerns are the quality and authenticity of the food served.
Not sparing any effort, the original taste of Peranakan cuisine has been preserved here, using the freshest ingredients and a select choice of spices.
Many have come to love our nonya food and even cater for special occasions at offices and homes!
Claims to be the oldest Peranakan restaurant in Singapore and makes the most of its status as Lee Kuan Yew's favourite, but in a city rich in food mythology and boastful claims, this kind of information cuts little ice. It's the food that does the talking - and the food here shouts pretty loud.
Try the sotong sambal (squid in sambal) or, our favourite Peranakan dish, ayam buah keluak (chicken cooked with black nut).

In order to grow second generation local hawkers, the authorities must not control the pricing of such food. Let market forces decide on their pricing, Singaporeans are value/price conscience they will weed out the lousy and expensive food.
they just need to control the pricing of rental
