Hard to say...it depends on the city. If you are going to NYC expect everything to be expensive... if going to San Francisco expect the same thing. There are trains, but few people use them. In fact Amtrak which is the company that runs the nationwide train service is going bankrupt due to lack of passengers. Most people drive between states. Do you have many friends who are as insular as what my mates in England and Scotland say? Here's a couple of quotes:

Well I would have a hard time believing someone in the US would not know what language is spoken in England. I mean the word English comes from England!
And there are quite a few who don't know exactly where Singapore is. Most know it's in SE Asia but they probably couldn't tell you exactly where without looking at a map... Can you tell me where Luxembourg is off the top of your head? I know where it's located, but that's only because I had a world geography class last semester...

As per subject discussed with an American correspondent of mine, He knew there are fools in America who think English came from America. And to rub salt to the wound, they even thought that America was the first recorded civilisation in the world. (The first recorded civilisation is in India.) -

Probably because they assume being from a non-english speaking country that english is not their first language? If I go to Thailand I am sure people would assume I can't speak Thai.

Most people are educated. People are required by law to attend school until the age of 16, most people continue on through to get a university education too. In american without a university degree you are almost guaranteed a Shitty job.

I don't think most people think the Canadians are stupid. We just like to poke fun at them, and they like to make fun of us. It's all in good fun. Mainly people make jokes about their accents.

My guess is people just don't care about the outside world because they don't plan on leaving the US. I don't really know how to answer that...
And I don't like to watch american news channels...especially Fox News. I much prefer watching the BBC. And most people don't get their news from MTV... -
Most people get paid every two weeks.
