coming back to all these pastors etc, i still think some of the teachers back in school, the older generation without out all the modern fanfare of youth service etc, the traditional christians i put it, they do have strike a sense of respect and awe. I always remember how one of my teachers used to talk abt men not reaching out to god and god trying to reach out to us. then he showed us some painting by Micheangelo. it was humbling experience IMO. and their gracious self and tolerant attitude towards other religions and explaning of idelogy is pretty clear cut and unbiased. -

Bilbao, Spain inspiried many other such buildings, hence i just use the word, the architects just photocopied the inispiration ..sheesh ..frankly i think once Frank Gehry designed that building, so many buildings ard the world are looking just like that ..even Federation Square in Melbourne City looks like a spin off ...well thats IMHO ... -

Really its not unusual that now religion is a business.
There was once where we saw this monk driven around in cars
while us common people still use public transport every day.
I wonder how much they understand the kind of lifestyle we lead
much less "spread the good word"??? There are so many poor people
out there and these religious people sit in big offices, eat sponsored
meals, spend donation money, talk to us common man about
"being kind or else" and go to their big mansion in expensive cars....
how much have they done for the common man and the poor...
I never though their message was credible.
I don't really get religious but I believe that if there is a god,
I do not need an interpretor to read a book I can read on my own
and interprete it my way, enjoy life anyway I like and pray to
whatever gods I believe and know the gods are all around us
and angel (maybe kind souls out there) guide us. Why did we
want to believe that we need to listen to someone or go some
place before we are accepted into a religion... -
if wanna be really close to god...
go and die.

Christianity doesn't say that you have to do certain things to be accepted. In fact it distinctly says that you don't have to do anythin besides believing to get up to heaven.

Being a christian does not mean you cannot drive luxury cars and live in big houses. Afterall, God did say that He will prosper you, He meant not just in money but in health, in your family relationships etc.... (meaning in every possible aspect in your life).
Of cos, those money used to buy these things have to come from above-board sources. Just like monks who drive Mercedes, if their money comes from sources which can be accounted for, its pretty hard for anyone to say they are wrong.
Also, despite their rights to have such possessions, in the end, it boils down to their behaviours as a christian. Remember the poor woman who gave only 3 copper coins and Jesus said she gave more than what the rich man gave? When God prospers you in terms of finance but yet you keep those money like it belongs to you and not use it to good purposes like giving to charities, missionaries etc.... God will judge them when they see God again.
So, there, do not judge a pastor or christian worker by their wealth but instead, look at how they lead their lives. Remember, being rich is not a sin. But, holding on to your money as if it is your god, is. -

Many thanks for your posts.
I am a backslider who decides to go back to church and is looking for a situable church as a new year resolution. Of course getting back to a church physically is one thing and regaining the communication spiritually is another thing (that will be another topic).
I just discovered a few mins ago and also from the reading the replies to this thread that there were previous discussion about CHC here. I tried searching for those threads but they were locked and I can't read some of them.
Wonder if there is any other forum that discuss churches and christianity in Singapore?

personally as a christian myself, i view CHC as nothing more than a decadent modern babylon. what kind of "christian church" operates in such a manner and what kind of "christians" dance and sing in such wanton manner? never has "christ like" been defined as spartan style living, if you can afford stuff..nothing wrong with owning them. as for the "christ-like" part..i dare say Jesus would be super angry if he saw such a "church". you might as well come out of the closet and call CHC city harvest social club instead of "church".

i like that. totally agrees with you.
if i were to believe in a god, i would want to believe it in my own way.
if i have to listen to other people's teaching, its like im believing in their god or in their believes.
whats the use of believing in other people's believes. even pastors from different church has their own version of believes and interpretation of god or massages from the bible.
so why not believe in my own way in god? and if i were to believe there is a god, that god is not of any religion. it is just an entities. not jesus not buddha not allah. you guys get what i mean? -

i have too many friends who is like that. open mouth close mouth god here god there, but they still smoke, club, getting drunk, lying...
but then, i do know of some who are previous ah bengs but after become christian, they totally changed. their changes are so hard to believe you thought they are different person... they stop smoking, clubbing, drinking lying and they become very helpful, respect other ppl, spent their free time doing bible study and prayers with their cell group.
when i asked them about why some christian are so devout but others are just for shows, they say that the cell group that you are in plays a major role. and alot of youngster now join christian just to follow trend or follow their friends.
many pple claim they are Christian to appear 'hip' or in 'trend'. sadly its becoming a social 'trend' nowadays when pple use Christ in vain. "yeah, i'm a Christian" but they actually are not and living an ungodly life.
statistically 77% of USA (in 2001) claim to be 'Christians'. but actually not all Americans who say they are Chrisitans are true Christians who lead Godly lives pleasing to God.
many Holloywood celebrities are 'Christians'.
michael jackson also claims that he is a 'Christian', but look at his life? -

back in secondary school, my classmate was a buddhist.then he was wearing this buddhist beads bracelet on his hand, then our vice-principal saw it and told my classmate to remove the beads saying that this was a christian school and we should be tolorant of our school christians rules and be mindful, my fren refused to take it off saying that he will remove it at the temple instead with the blessing of the monks, then my vice principal got pissed and called his parents saying that he was being rude and disobident.pls bear in mind my classmates just told my vice prinicpal the reason for not taking off and didn't shout at her in anyway.
then my classmates parents came down, and when the vice principal related to them the problem of the boy not taking down the beads, his father was saying still they will remove it at the temple, but my vice principal was pretty stubborn saying that in school they didn't allow any students to wear such artifacts of religon even crosses,then when couple of girls strolled into the school office to run some errands on the behalf of the teacher, did they saw crosses on the girls necks ....then his parents pointed out, the vice principal was rather out of words and asked the girls to take out the crosses, then thats when the girls said that "did you said last time in the girl's talk that christians in school were allowed to wear the crosses ? "
this matter was brought up to MOE and it was settled soon after MOE rang up the vice principal regarding the incident.
and my fren contiuned to wear his beads ..
