back in secondary school, my classmate was a buddhist.then he was wearing this buddhist beads bracelet on his hand, then our vice-principal saw it and told my classmate to remove the beads saying that this was a christian school and we should be tolorant of our school christians rules and be mindful, my fren refused to take it off saying that he will remove it at the temple instead with the blessing of the monks, then my vice principal got pissed and called his parents saying that he was being rude and disobident.pls bear in mind my classmates just told my vice prinicpal the reason for not taking off and didn't shout at her in anyway.
then my classmates parents came down, and when the vice principal related to them the problem of the boy not taking down the beads, his father was saying still they will remove it at the temple, but my vice principal was pretty stubborn saying that in school they didn't allow any students to wear such artifacts of religon even crosses,then when couple of girls strolled into the school office to run some errands on the behalf of the teacher, did they saw crosses on the girls necks ....then his parents pointed out, the vice principal was rather out of words and asked the girls to take out the crosses, then thats when the girls said that "did you said last time in the girl's talk that christians in school were allowed to wear the crosses ? "
this matter was brought up to MOE and it was settled soon after MOE rang up the vice principal regarding the incident.
and my fren contiuned to wear his beads .. -

I think everyones got thier own perception of churches and why the need to go ..but the most important thing is not whether u go churches anot... Yes God is with you where ever you are and we communicate with him anywhere we wan even at home. ppl go churches becos we need to understand what jesus said or meant in the bible... as many christians know that the bibles are written in parables and we can only understand the pure basic of each but thru bible studies the pastor are able to decipher the true meaning and to enlighten the christians ... However they are churches who infact abuses the trust of their followers and actually making personal gains from it... But Pastor are teachers they need to be paid too.. if they are not paid who will preach? they need bread and jesus has bread for them ... For those who thinks going to churches is for self help group or cell group ... Then maybe you are going the wrong direction my dear friend .... the main thing is to learn or enlighten ourselves about the bible....
And other thing is about forcing others to join? these i find it funny.... Christians do not force believers I know they are ppl who are excited and too enxious to convert friends but please God need not Sell ... Ppl come to God Let them come willing and not sell God comes you might be degrading God instead of worshipping... And comments about what christians do ... drinking , smoking , blah blah ... for those do you expect christians to be all fathers and nuns? its 21st century of cos its not of the century that things are this way even god himself drinks even ppl in history drinks... so whats wrong about drinking? we are not muslims we are allowed to drink ... No matter what Father Kang does he'll be best remembered by many for tainting the image of religious people in S'pore. Thankfully the law caught up with him.
Is there a mixed Catholic secondary school here? If there is it eludes my memory.
Don't criticise the practices of other religions, it is downright rude. You wouldn't want others to rib your religion for practices which hold special personal meaning, or put down agnostics, would you? Criticising the hypocrisy is fine, it is unacceptable and I hate it too, but the last few comments by vito were uncalled for. -

I believe independent churches are more like that. I believe Catholic is the true church because of the strong faith it instilled many people. Just look at the monks and nuns who are taking care of hospices, orphanages, old aged homes, etc. These are not glamourous jobs. In fact, they are quite dirty.
However, I have not heard of many other churches doing the same thing. DEFINATELY NOT CHC!
They really live a poor and humble life because they chose to GIVE. -

well best not to slander CHC , incase they sue you, remember they have attained ISO 9000 status and they are running a cooperation with CEO, accoutants etc
whether they do such services or help the needy,thats up to them really in their conscience. remember ultimately they will be judged as well. -
If you believe in CHC, you need not ask us if we do the same.

I agree that churches and other places of worship can be grand and expensive looking. However, on the other hand, pastors while preaching for christains to be Christ-like, should live like Christ, with humble possessions in this materialistic world.
