i did not mean to say that local men are tyrants. one of the reason for our high divorce rate is the earning power of local women. their expectation of men and marriages has changed with better earning power. vietnamese brides have little or no earning power. thus they are at the mercy of their singapore husbands.

Not surprised at the report. Some lucky Vietnamese brides get good husbands who really care and provide for them. Some unlucky ones get those wife-beaters, which are of now difference from where they come from.
The reality is that some guys simply have no luck with women, so they resort to "buying" brides. Among this pool, the above applies.
