Dear fellow comrades
From 1 May, 2005, Golden Village, Eng Wah, and Lido will be increasing their ticket prices (AGAIN) from $6.50 to $7.00 and $8.50 to $9.50! Even with the intervention of the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), the three organizations seem to have no intention of changing their minds.
I urge all of you, Singaporeans who watch movies (WHO DOESNÂ’T?!), to sign this petition and forward the link. We may not be able to prevent this consumer tragedy from happening, but we must make it known that there is a limit to our tolerance (and the depth of our pockets)!

you really think that such petition will work? nah. if the gov doesn't intervene, which i seriously doubt they would, no amount of petitions is gonna make the cinemas change their minds. It's money we are talking about here.

Yup...no doubt, as mention, i dun think we will be able to stop them this time. HOwever, voicing out is important. At least u know u have tried to stop it rather than keeping quiet and letting them assume we singaporeans r the type that keep quiet and allowed them to do watever they want.
this petition now has 750 odds signatures...it is not enough...but i do hope people will forward the link and gather more signatures.

But, will the govt listen? Well...it depends whether they watch moobies

true...action speak louder....no doubt...if most singaporeans agree not to watch movie for 2 weeks, maybe they will stop it...but i doubt the feasibility of such actions.
750 is a small number but it represent the number of people who try. i am sure more people are complaining but NOT doing anything...
if we give up and always resign to our fate, then we will never be able to go far...singapore's present success is not built by founders who resign to fate, they faced the challenge and won it. when ministers complain that present singaporeans are bo chap and unlike the early founders...haiz...there is an element of truth in it...
still i just hope that this might go as far as possible and submit it to newpaper , case and my MP. At least, i tried. -

either all of u boycott the cinemas or u all go there n have a peaceful demonstration or u can go on a hunger strike to protest.

Like wat u all suggested, those are true action. i set up the peition hopefully to gather enough signatures to prove that at least that something we are willing to do. a korean burn himself infront of the WTO, that is action because his living is affected. i must say i cant do it. i cant push myself to do the hunger strike thing. but for those who suggested those options...are u capable ? if u r...i am sure u have a passion so strong for it...
If u suggest something, will u be able to push it through? i am doing what i feel to be the best way to deliver my message. if it fails, at least i tried.
have you felt anything strongly? but instead u back off and juz complain to ur friends and not do anything at all? that feeling is rotten i am sure...
i appreciate those who signed and support the cause, if you dun, i respect ur decision. -

govt rich, what's 9.50 to them?
no obvious return for them, they won't bother one lah.. me watch movie only once in while, so i guess it won't hurt much
always catch them on dvds, rent cheaper. the only time i watch is when i exchange my reward pts for tickets -

quit whining, there are plenty of other big cities that charge much much much more for tix like new york, tokyo,london all charge prices that are at least twice as high as tix in singapore..we're already considered one of the few cities where u can get cinema tix at affordable prices.
