The problem here is the utter refusal by the Jap righties to admit their faults. One mistake of the US was to allow the royal family to continue as constitutional monarchs. I just discovered a generation gap between me and my parents. i find that ww2 was a very far away and distant event. I always believed in leting bygones be bygones. But to my parents, the fact that the japs denied that the rape of nanking happened, it shows that it is not remorsefeul and hence, we should not readily forget about it so easily.
To many PRC people in china , they have a similar kind of sentiment. They feel that they should not forgive or forget. But itsn't such general hatred and nationalistic pride the cause of wars in the past centuries the first place?
Should we let sleeping dogs lie? or should we face the problem head to head?
I don't want to hate them, nor do i want to fully embrace them either. If given the chance i just want everybody to put down their difference peacefully. Rather kind of naive thought here though.
If you were to look at Germany, the fact that it was partitioned between the Allies and Soviets for more than 40 years and the restoration of democracy allowed (West) Germany to engage in meaningful dialogue with France, Holland and other neighbours affected directly by WW2. The US didn't want a communist party in Japan, so they allowed the royals to stay on. Contrast this with Italy, where the family of Victor Immanuel was exiled for their role in Benito Mussolini's rise.
The old order in Europe made way for a different order, one that was committed to regional peace and shared prosperity, hence we have the EU. Germany and Italy are able to have cordial ties with their neighbours because they have leaders who do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past and have another round of immense suffering. Japan does not seem to have learned its lesson, on the ohter hand. -

after which a combined korea and china launch an all-out attack on japan. the excuse to justify such a move, is that korea and china felt threatened by that japanese move which can be perceived in some ways convincingly as the start of an invasion. once korea and china starts the war rolling, japan retaliates and the war snowballs and we can all have momentum to move on from there
every non-jap asian has a moral obligation to ensure that no single jap is left living. as far as possible, before killing, 1st the males must be tortured and females raped. this pre-death suffering should last as long as situation permits
hope this happens as soon as possible. lets work towards it -

thats why i refuse to take sides for the china japan issue.Both countries want a regional prosperity. Both want a win win situation. But are they working towards it? One refusing to admit the mistakes of its past, and another which refuse to let go of its past.Perhaps the word forgive and forget can't be used when in comes to country vs country relationships. But i would really wish that both sides will come clean one day. Is the words "sorry' and "i forgive' that difficult? sorry dude, i dunno if you are seriously saying this or not, but i do not condone any acts of violence on an innocent person. Not then, and definately not now.Just because they rape and murder doesn't mean i should do the same. offense is the best defense. chinese children and women suffered because japan attacked china. japanese children and women did not suffer (except A-bombing, which wasn't nearly enough anyway) because china did not attack japan.
the lesson learnt here is that, china must attack japan so that chinese children and women will not suffer
