Not bashing.. very concern over the matter.Originally posted by fudgester:Sounds like another bash-the-kids session. Oh well, here we go...
I must agree that kids these days seem to have looser morals. It's not at all uncommon to hear of 13-year old girls losing their virginities and 14 year old boys comparing how many cherries they popped. To me what really astounds me is the fact that I'm only 21 years old, and thus only a few years older than them. I seriously don't remember any of my peers engaging in this sort of thing when I was their age. Maybe there were, but such tales are few and far in between.
And no, it's not because I was in some prestigious school and was out of touch of reality. I came from a neighbourhood school with its fair share of gangsters and hooligans. While I did hear tales of students engaging in such sexual practices, they were mostly confined to the Upper Sec hooligans.
Now the age of having sex is dropping liao..... I remember reading a special Straits Times report stating that the average age for teenage sex is now 12. And mind you, that's AVERAGE.... which means that there are some even younger ones as well. My eyes almost popped out of my sockets when one 12-year old kid complained to the reporter that he had to stop having sex as he needed to prepare for his PSLE.
What it means is that they were having sex at the same age when I was playing Police & Thief and Pepsi Cola 1-2-3 during recess.
Something to think about.

Seems like more of a taking a few isolated incidents, wrap it up in a special report and make it sound as if it were the trend.I certainly do not think it has become such a sad state.Originally posted by hyuuga neji:![]()

Casino,
No problem being yourself. There's a lot of this PDA thing going around. And it's not you alone..sometimes I look around and I feel that I'm quite distant from youth today.Don't feel bad, it's called becoming mature.
Anyone born in the early 80s feel the same? That you feel old-school at times?
I know..but its the age groups these days that are more shocking..JC stuff is nothing new man.Originally posted by GaLtwenty:I was born b4 dat. But this is actually nothing new to me,really
In the past as u refer to late 80s onwards, it had always been around. The difference back then was that they did it behind closed doors.
Those ppl born before the 80s would know what i am referring.During those times teenage pregnancies were also very common.U could even hear ppl identifying a certain school or JC which have higher number of cases.Besides drug use were also very common during the early 80s
adults are responsible more their own actions and have to/can clean up the mess themselves. but kids need their parents or society to clean up for them!!Originally posted by GaLtwenty:i think its not only kids who do these sorts of things. Even 30 year olds do it too.But at their age , no one complains as its accepted.
In euro countries, 30 year olds behave like some kids too. Guys pick up girls in pubs ect.
Agree... I hate to say this but people let things slide when it should be highlighted and correctedOriginally posted by dragg:even if it only a small percentage there is cause for concern. things like that only get worst they never get better.![]()

We are trying to prevent the kids now from growing up into 30 yrs old irresponsible kids.Originally posted by GaLtwenty:i think its not only kids who do these sorts of things. Even 30 year olds do it too.But at their age , no one complains as its accepted.

Kids tend to follow adults. In fact its adults which influence the kids. What's meant for adults eventually find their way onto kids' hands.Who makes pornography? its the adults. Who places emphasis on glamour , style ect. Its the adults again.Blame the adults.

do u think the 20 years olds now are saints? In my own office i could sometimes see couples staying up late at night .*get the idea*Originally posted by mistyblue:We are trying to prevent the kids now from growing up into 30 yrs old irresponsible kids.
BTW, ppl in their 20s will be footing their social bill. Me? I am beyond that range to care when it does happen.
There were a few girls in my school who took their 'O' Levels with a big tummy back then.Originally posted by GaLtwenty:Yes, Those times were different, It was usually the upper sec ppl who influence the younger ones.Older teens think and behave differently from younger ones.I was from AMK sec and these schools together with Bowen were worst schools in my neighbourhood during the late 80s and early 90s.i always hear of police, pregnancy cases back then as my mum were among the rumour mongers in the neighbourhood.Such matters were kept in secrecy.
same here. one of my female classmates ended up taking her Os with her mum waiting with her baby outside the hallOriginally posted by elindra:There were a few girls in my school who took their 'O' Levels with a big tummy back then.
It's really becoming quite a common problem. I think the main issue here is that parents these days are too busy to educate their children properly about the birds and the bees
I didn't say that. I didn't say anyone is a saint. I am just saying that kids who should be studying should not be making babies. 20 yr old already independent and need to be responsible for whatever they do. Can a teenager be responsible for the babies they make? You would be surprise to hear its the same with the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s crowd and what they will do when they know they can get away with it.Originally posted by GaLtwenty:do u think the 20 years olds now are saints? There''s no preggies during my time but I know people do play around, form gangs and such. It was very shaming to become pregnant and usually these people are shunted by the whole school. there's a lot more social pressure not to screw up. But then, perhaps its also because I was in very methodist run schools who are known to be pretty strict. We had s*x ed by the counsellers themselves before holidays, class by class so that we can approach with questionsOriginally posted by dragg:society has changed. i have never seen any pregnancies in sec school during my time. but gangsters were everywhere.
