As for savings there are various factors.... his overall savings level is not really that high... i think i got more savings at his age....also maybe his parents don't need him to support and actually help him save when he was young so that he got a head start......

he is considered successful because on the average he is better than many other singaporeans.

Hey got this fren 31 years old also make 5 K per month a Senior Engineer, co own a HDB flat with parent..... Drive a Civic .. saving should be more than 50 K (my guess) .. I think he is very successful.. the only problem with him is he is short and not good looking.. he also had high expectation of girl must be pretty so on and forth he was interested in my ex.. He turned down a few ladies who he dun find presentable in fact.. I suppose if you are doing quite well in life guess you will be quite confident!

what i am curious about is whether it is really common for men/women in their 30s to have a pay package of $3-4k per month.

$3K- $4K is average for a guy with U. degree.
Someone I know, in his early 30s is earning above $10K cos he is doing regional work.
Another guy, already a millionaire before 40, (self-made) makes his money outside of S'pore. He's into investment banking. He said very difficult to come back here cos nobody can pay him.
There are opportunities to earn a lot but sad to say, mostly are out of S'pore.
U need to travel extensively & work for foreign co. -
By the way $50K can only get u a cheap Kia or Hyundai, not European made car.
His saving will be completely wiped out if he buys one. -

If you talk about savings....I guess he should have at least 100k in both his bank acct and investment acct(asset)...at his age, he should be insured....could own a flat....if he is smart euff...he should buy a second-hand car....I guess he made a mistake to buy both a flat and car at the same time....I can sense that he will have a hard time fiancing both....besides, he is apporaching marriage age...if he dont start reviewing his fianance or balance sheet...he is doom to be in the rat race for life.... -

The fren i talk abt was lucky, his first job give him a skill and knowleadge which is quite unique..and he was then head hunted to join his current company ... cannot write in detail otherwise he will know if he is reading.. hence he could actually quite in demand... he been travelling quite extensively to Europe ,US , China .. i could only say he can make a living anywhere with his skill set and exp which is required in every country.. even thot SG mfg down and his company relocated oversea.. he is still very critical part of his company.. This fren is not a bad guy.. guess no one wants a ugly wife.. the thought of my ex is with him .. sometime irk me and feel like killing him sometime .. Acutually I do not even know who my ex is with now just that this guy likes her a lot and was trying to impress her..Sorry OOT
