From the looks of it, this funeral might be given full state honours.. someone said Mr Wee will be lying in state at the istana from tues to thurs. as i said in a post after the raping one, the rapign and maiming was extreme but the principle is still there, you wont praise that guy completey because there is still a chance he will do somethign wrong that will make you wrong about what you said. just imagine, he was known as a being very friendly to pple then one day because he was in a very bad mood he throws pple out of some place or start alienating pple, it wont whitewash his name but it would tarnish it and thus make the speaker wrong. and admit it pple do not like to be wrongOriginally posted by wuming78:hm..how possible is it that someone who has lived a life of honour and integrity and dignity for 7 to 8 decades suddenly decides to whitewash all the good that he has accumulated for himself by doing all those? and if he had the inclination for these activities, wont they have been manifested in the 90% of his living time, rather than the last few percent? and has there been such cases in history?
and actually i do not see why the extreme case is not possible, i don't know of historical cases and i am lazy to go and search for it but ponder this. imagine i have been controlled by some one for 9 decades and suddenly because i am goign to die i feel that his threats do not scare me any mroe thus i do the things that i feel like doing even if they go in direct contrast to what i have been doign(in fact alot of pple would do it, as an act of defiance, jsut because they are free to act at last),
or if i have subscribed to a certain religion/thinking that proposes killing everyone who is different but becuase of some event late in life (maybe god came to say hi or he met somethign that touched him) I change my beliefs to say buddhism and thus start acting totally different to how i acted back then.

I woke up damn late today and just saw the news a couple of hours ago.
I am deeply saddened by his passing.
I remember when I was 11, I attended an event where he was the guest of honour. I was queuing behind him in the buffet line, and he turned to me and asked, "So, how do you find the food?"
I was so extremely in awe that all I could say was, "Ok lah..."
He gave his trademark smile and told me to enjoy the dinner.
As I thought back over the years, I was like, OMFG, the president of Singapore spoke to me and all I could say was 'Ok lah...'
He is a really nice guy, hope he's in a better place now. -
