How do you quantify Quality as well as Appearance?
Taking two products of the same genre and comparing as of the topic stated will be more visible. -
I have to say its due to different reasons.. Self Ego, peer pressure, society, etc.. Have to understand why to get a so-called "fake appearance".. To blend into a certain group? Want to be respected? As a hobby? There are many reasons i feel.. The first two things I look out for are:
(1) Whether there are any "sale" signs around.
(2) The price tag. -
for me, i go and see the price first, if too ex....i will forget it.

ogh got it.. so people will normally look at the price first right? but what if the price of a bag is high, but you live it a lot, will you still consider buying? lets say if the bag is less than a hundred dollars.

I think its too general a question, pal. What kind of bag? For example, a good huge quality suitcase would be considered reasonable for less than $100. Its been long known that there are several type of customers - price-sensitive, brand-conscious, status-conscious, quality-sensitive, nationalistic (buys homemade products only, or buys foreign goods only), etc. Thats why we have a full range for most products - ranging from the cheap to the pricey.
And the same person who drives a Mercedes Benz could be carrying a cheap handphone too.
Might be easier for us to fine-tune our comments and arguments if there was a specific direction. Eg. handbags, schoobags, personal accessories, automobiles, homes, clubs, etc. -
hmm.. your are right.. but a person carrying a not known brand will sure decrease the person's status right? what if people just look in to the quality of the bag, then bags would be more saleable right? but now not all bags are of good quality, but it sell well, take for example Zinc, it can be found even in pasar malam, and many people will buy it. why? because the colour and design are of eye catching. so in the end people dont go for qualit. am i right to say so?

And its again too general to say that a person carrying an unknown brand will have his/her status decreased.
I know someone who always dressed up, was a keen collector of Tag Hauer watches, spoke well, carried himself well, etc. But I never knew what kind of luggage bag he carried.
Really, it would be much easier for us to focus our comments and arguments if the topic wasn't too general. -
Sorry, perhaps I was lousy at explaining things. So to clarify myself....
What I mean was that the question would be easier to answer if asked in these ways (just examples):
" hey guys... i just wanna know why do people always go for appearance of handbags rather then the quality? "
" hey guys... i just wanna know why do people always go for appearance of cars rather then the quality? "
" hey guys... i just wanna know why do people always go for appearance of watches rather then the quality? "

okie erm.. i guess i should re-phrase my topic.. i guess now a days people look more into design than the quality. i sells bag my self, and i often notice that consumers will look in to the design and not the quality, or the price and not the quality. but most often than not, good quality stuffs comes with plain design and high cost, so people tends to buy the good design, at the end of the day after they had bought it, they will start complaining that the quality is bad and all. i know that price do affect their decision of buying a bag, but how about the phrase " good stuffs = expensive" it is never cheap to buy something with a good quality.

Actually, your customers may not know how to judge the quality lah. Looks do count...I'm also guilty of it. Sometimes looks of a product are just so appealing that I wanna have it, even if it means I'll suffer a bit of quality loss. Depends on what kind of things, how I intend to use it, etc etc....

nopez..it is not bad quailty bags.. it is good quality bags and thats why expensive.. i have good and not so good qualities.. but people reject good quality bags because they are expensive..

I'm quite active in sports and so I have some sports bags. There was once when I was feeling a bit rich and searching for a nice one.....but at the store, I saw that they had a sale, with some sports bags placed on the rack.
Just out of curiosity, I browsed through the items on the rack and found a branded one (a low end, unsophisticated model with thin walls). It was only a quarter of the money I was prepared to spend. Having gotten tempted, I told myself "why not? after all it works for me". So I bought it.
A few months later, it got a bit worn out at the seams. I also didn't like it anymore (too squarish). So I bought a new one (a more expensive and more elaborate one, with pockets for different items and all).
I guess we all balance price, quality, design, type of usage, etc. For me, I knew that I would change sports bags often anyway, so I didn't care if it was cheap and would be worn out shortly. For me, it was also which feeling dominated during the time of buying (price, quality, design, etc.).
Have you noticed that most customers here will not choose the most expensive or cheapest model where most types of products are concerned? Maybe the mentality here is to average out all aspects by choosing something in the middle (price-wise and quality-wise).
In the case of your customers, perhaps they trust that everything sold at your shop would be of acceptable quality. So even if they chose a cheaper one, it would still serve its purpose. Maybe.... -
wow.. you really am good at seeting people minds at ease.. but now i have got a problem.. i have some extremely good quality bags.. and the price is not more than $130.. it is a sling bag with many compartments which is specially designed for street wise.. the bag is made of high quality cloth water proof.. what should i do with them.. they cost more than 80 thousand US dollars.. i am so puzzled and lost..

I guess the initial target audience for such shop does make a difference.. For example, if the shop located at Queensway shopping centre.. Many people who go there to buy bags will have this thinking that the bags sold there are cheap.. That would mean that quality comes second place after price.. If your shop sells all not so good quality bags and a few good quality bags, people will set the impression that your shop's stuff is more of not so good quality bags.. Likewise vice versa..
Have to admit that many singaporeans want cheap and good stuff.. True that, there are things which are cheap and good.. There are also things which are expensive but not good.. But if you take the probability, its still that good things dont often come cheap.. Just that people still prefer to take the risk of buying cheap and try to get good stuff, than to buy expensive.. due to the fact that some expensive stuff are not good... And of course the budget issue..
But Singaporeans complaining is a norm already.. They say poor quality, as compared to what kind of bags? To branded good quality bags, then of course the quality is poor.. They seldom compare to those even cheaper bags and find that the quality is actually not that bad.. Its how they look and compare I guess. -

i don't dare to bring in the new product yet.. but i have used it.. infact the first singaporen to use it.. i think it is very good.. lasted for 6 months in my trial period and still in good condition.. the quality is seriously high so is the cost of making it.. i have not thought of a way to bring it in yet.. cause i know that it will be rejected becaus of the cost.. any idea pal?
