oh of course i do... there are so many examples of tycoons/millionaires starting out as a nobody, and a stroke of genius on their part made them become what they are today... off-hand cant really give names of such pple...Originally posted by limian69:i dont meant help by giving free money...i meant invest in great opportunity thought by those who have dreams and ideas...do u know that some rich people before they became rich they have ideas which had given the impression to people that they are riddiculous...![]()

can turn it into this:
be thankful for the nice house you live in.. don't mind while the people inside financially sodomise you occasionally
oh well... some really are thankful for the nice house, aren't they?
......the next company to offer trpt svc may be even more unscrupulous............Use yr brain la kotek, watever next sh|t gonna come is still under that bigger sh|t. and the bigger sh|t is the biggest sh|t in suckapore.
i have used my brain more rationally than u did, at least... u also know how to say that the next s*** to come is an even bigger s***, u still want that 2 happen ah?Originally posted by Koteh80:Use yr brain la kotek, watever next sh|t gonna come is still under that bigger sh|t. and the bigger sh|t is the biggest sh|t in suckapore.
Resistance is futile.... the Matrix has u
u make the companies sound like they are aft every penny that we have.. lol...Originally posted by the Bear:thing is that, people are not satisfied with what they earn... they can go out and earn more.. but that is limited to their own abilities...
when a corporation like a transport company, which is basically a cartel in singapore, wants to gouge more money out of people, the people are helpless to stop them.. and those who are the most dependent on them, are those who can least afford the increases...
just how much is enough for a corporation?
a human being can be held back by his conscience, his sense of "i really have enough"... his family.. his own time...
a corporation has none of these.. they are answerable to no one except the bottom line...
i don't mind if the company is really unable to cope with the increases of expenses.. for it would be unreasonable to expect them to lose money..
but being a PUBLIC SERVICE, their reason for being is not to earn profits.. it is to serve the public...
a fare increase when SBST reported a $49million profit last year says different...
so... what is the justification of the price hike? is it just outright greed?
looks that way, doesn't it?

assume that the public trpt svc is really not entitled to make any kinda profit, who's going to pay for the maintainence of the buses and mrts? which company would want to delve into a business which makes no money?
public trpt is for the public to use, so all of us have the responsiblity to make our journey more pleasant... i agree that the profit is kinda huge, but i have also asked how much of the profit actually comes from commuters... if all the 49 million u mentioned comes from our pockets, all the noise we make truely deserves the gov's attention...
corporations are also run by human beings, and there are some who are blinded by profits... but it has always been the case of survival of the fittest, that's the sad part... i believe there pte companies operating trpt svc to give sbs n smrt a run for their money... hopefully, they will become a force to be reckon with in time to come and create an impact as that in the telco industry...
i cant help but to feel that only part of the 49million can from our pockets alone... i rem reading another article whereby they wrote abt how commuters "cheated" by not paying the full fare etc and the cost of maintaining each bus...Originally posted by the Bear:they are after every penny in our pockets
but seriously, the $49M did come from somewhere.. and it's us.. Joe Public...
as for private companies, it kinda went to heck when the "call" for them to pick up the slack went out by the PTC..
the private companies answered resoundingly... but then, PTC hit them with an unreasonable condition of retro-fitting EVERY bus so that the doors of private buses would have the same width as the public buses!
the private companies could never do that.. so they forgot the whole thing as they recognised it as the BS that it was
oh well..

I hope all the members of the ruling party get wiped out in a terrorist strike. They totally deserve it.Originally posted by av98m:I suppose if there's such a thing called retribution, the members of the ruling party or their offspring will suffer the consequences. i think the main issue is not if you can afford the rise though that is part of the issue. its like i say i now see how you spend and then from now on i take what ever you dun spend this month from your pay. you can afford it if i do that but why should i get to do that? and also the bus companies not giving good service so why should they even get bonuses when they are still doing okOriginally posted by mercurialz:i cant help but to feel that only part of the 49million can from our pockets alone... i rem reading another article whereby they wrote abt how commuters "cheated" by not paying the full fare etc and the cost of maintaining each bus...
i feel that we sometimes need to look at the bigger pic... assuming an avg person takes 4 rides a day... with the increment, lets take it as 5c, a person wld need to pay an addn of 20c/day, $6/mth, $72/yr... assuming again that a working adult works in the public sector, and gets a wage increment of $120/yr and not counting the bonuses that they get, i think an avg s'porean can still tahan the increment...
pple working in pte sector command even higher pay increment and bonuses.. so how can an avg s'porean not be able to afford public trpt...
however, i also know that there are families belonging to the lower-income grp, and my heart goes out to them... perhaps the gov/sbs/smrt can start a scheme to help these pple? juz like senior citizens/students get concessionary fares?
