Is it a must to have a wedding dinner while getting married?

i m not a guy so can i give comment ? well.. it not reali a must to have wedding dinner, it all up to the couples but then one more thing you got to rem .. some parents prefer to have wedding dinner as to tell their relatives their son/daughter is getting married. Rate for the wedding dinner depend on the locations . Some places can have dinner that cost around $300+ per table and some places can cost up to $700+ per table.

not necessary. wat my parents requested is for a few tables for relatives to make it official. otherwise a church wedding will do.

actually, with the ang baos and so on... the cost of wedding dinner is not too high... unless the couple go for luxuries stuffs....

but rem dont ever get in debt cos of wedding.. if you dont have enuff money to get marry, save up first.

and i dun see the point in inviting a hall of ppl, half of whom i do not know, risk myself being sabo-ed, have to smile the whole nite till my cheek muscle cramp and worst is......unable to enjoy the food......

Its not a must to throw a dinner. Think of it as a celebration of your wedding with your friends and relatives (as well as your parents' friends whom you have absolutely no idea who they are).

REMEMBER this event is only for your relatives and friends and not for you and your partner (you two will be too busy to enjoy the dinner - some even kana sabo).
If die die must have wedding dinner, go for restaurants and not hotels cause NO ONE (except you two) will remember where you held your wedding years down the road. With restaurants, your loses will not be that big, some even earn from the ang paos.
My advice is to spent your money on your honeymoon which is purely enjoyed by both of you. -

Hey. Wedding dinner is to annouce to people that you are married publily (after all, those 100 people did not attend to yr ROM). And those folks out there wont recognise that you are married (thou ROM is legally binded) till you make this public. k? hehe

Wow.. thats nice.. My in-laws still told their grandchildren to call me 'Auntie' on the day before our wedding dinner (We have ROM a year earlier). BUT FORCED them to call me 'Ah Kim' the day after. AAAHHHH !!

i guess more parents still got those traditional thinking, after customary then consider as married , as for us we are consider married once we sign on that paper

normally better hotels charges $60-80 per head.. go count how many tables loh. and dont forget the martells/xos/red wine...

Go to nice hotels only if u have big bucks to lose.
my friend who held hers at a 6-star one lost $20,000 on her wedding dinners. She lost all those on her relatives... from friends, actually earn $1000, but from relatives, she lost big time. bcos some juz give $50 for the whole table of family. a table cost $1,200!
nice memories -- sure. the hotel is grand and posh. and everyone knows it's expensive but not everyone will be generous. so be prepared to pay for the memories, service and "status symbol". -

Better to have weddnig dinner to mark the cooasion mah. But my question is whetehr we must have Cantonese-themed 10 course dinner all the time or not. Is it possible to go Italian for once?

it's only once in your lifetime. just do it wherever u feel like it. Limit the number of tables for your parents and so u can budget your potential loss. Enjoy the atmosphere and worry-free service that higher rated hotels can provide. Go to a restaurant, yes.,.. u may earn but is tat ur intention - make $$$ on ur wedding??? Most young ppl like hotels better. if u like also, dun force urself to go restuarant...just spend the money wisely by budgeting your seats and invited guests.... dun anyhow invite lah.....
