I have many friends who speaks Singlish so powerfully you can never tell they get As for their O levels ang moh.

What's proper english anyway? In the uk, you'll hear english spoken with different accents due to regional differences. Singaporeans speak singlish, good on them, we don't have to imitate ang moh speaking through their nostrils.

What the hell is proper english? In england, some speak with a cockney accent. A texan may have a twinge. Germans have a heavy accent when they say words begining with the letter h. Even within a single country like new zealand, there is no standard uniformity. The north and south islanders speak differently. Keep up the singlish singaporeans, the english language is a evolving language.

It's too difficult.. most malays speak Malay @ home.. Indian speak Tamil.. Chinese speak dialects, chinese or english... So how do u perfect english as compare to american who only speak mainly english... isn't it just the same for Dutch trying to speak english or italian trying to speak english... no way u can perfect english unless it's the only language!

I don't identify with Singlish. There's too many Hokkien, Malay words in that slang. If you're not Hokkien or Malay, Singlish is alien. It is not a true Singaporean language.

i think it's ok to mix other language with the language u speaking as long as the other party can understand it.
young ppl in HK like to mix some english word when they are speaking cantonese.
In Taiwan, ppl also mix english and some Hokkien when they speak Mandarin.
Even in China, it's very common that some english words are mixed with mandarin when they speak to each other.
But of cos, when a young HK guy speak to his grandma, he will not mix english with cantonese. Mixing other languange anot depends on who we speaking to, i think.
If it's OK to mix english when we speak chinese, they why not mix chinese when we speak english? -
For guys, i guess.. time spent in the army has corrupted the way they would normally speak... profanities seems to be incorporated to their speech.
