To be a "rich" dentist have to be a specialist or run your own clinic along orchard road servicing rich customers, epecially tai tai and their children.Originally posted by JLennon:personally, i think the best job goes to the dentist. its very rare to suffer from a terminal toothache so there is no need for the dentist to do night-shifts and burn weekends.

Be careful of banking industry, banks are slave drivers, but they do pay well if you deliver. If you cant take the extreme stress of working long hours in the first 2 to 3 years, forget it.Originally posted by YummyGummy:get 5 figure salary. read in news paper onces then i feel like taking banking course in poly.
But then i also heared Accountants never get retrench and will sure get job anywhere anytime want!
true or not!
it certainly beats working long hours for a $2-3k salary.Originally posted by Gazelle:Be careful of banking industry, banks are slave drivers, but they do pay well if you deliver. If you cant take the extreme stress of working long hours in the first 2 to 3 years, forget it.
As for accountant, it is the same shit. working hour are very long. E.g. if you see people still working in the office after 8pm, usually it is the junior accountants.
If you get into the Big 4, make sure you are ready to work through the weekend for at least the first few years.
5 figure salary doesnt come easily, you need to work for it.
only a certain percentage goes to the dentist and most of the money goes to the clinic. Dentist salary is limited by the no of hours they have each day. So in order to get more you have to charge high or get dentist to work for you.Originally posted by dragg:i think all dentists make a bundle. look at how much they charge!!

To be an investment banker, you must first know where to invest, and before you can do that, you need to know what exactly are you investing in, who are the people running the companies.Originally posted by finance_geek:If anyone has experience in the big 4,kindly help me out here.
Does entering the big 4 for say around 3 years and then moving onto the banking industry(obviously I'm talking abt investment banking) have any advantage over entering banking sector directly upon graduation?
I intent to do my CFA during those 3 years as well and getting into the big 4 is all but a cartainty for me.
Which route is better?
My fren used to work for one of the Big 4 after graduation from NUS with a degree in Accountancy. She was literally a slave there. morning 9 to evening 11-12am ...saturday till 3-4 ..sunday sometimes need to work..sometimes free depends on boss. she worked for 3 yrs there..became very stressed, developed a dental problem as her teeth wasgrinding against her jaw due to work pressure...the pay was pretty alright..btw $3000 to $4500 gross mthly.then quited her job last yr to join IRAS...less stress.Originally posted by finance_geek:Thanks gazelle.
Another thing,if I become a CPA after 2 years, can I retain that title even if i leave the accounting field for the banking sector?
If possible, then it would be definitely worthwhile to slog it out at the big 4 for a couple of years.
My main concern is that the overwhelming workload at the big 4 might hinder my preparation for my CFA exam.
That is provded you can get into I-Banking from the start.Originally posted by newbie80:errmmm... finance_geek.... did you get the mail I sent u?
anyway.. you gotta be more clear abt which particular field of I-banking you wanna go into. Basically pple in M&A, trader, private bankers etc are all called investment bankers broadly. In my opinion... it is best u go into I-banking from the start.
Yeah, Pride is important, but something luck too...Originally posted by finance_geek:Like I've said before, although I'm confident of getting 1st class honours,I'm not exactly dean's list material. So getting directly into i-banking w/o any experience is almost impossible.Only 3-4 students every graduating batch get to do that.My dad has said he can speak to people he knows(and he know's some really top people),but I'm having none of that because I've got too much pride.
A B.Acc,3 years of auditing experince + a CFA in 2009 will suffice then.Haha.
