Frankly, with this kind of wealth I will live it up and buy a nice car to drive rather than squeeze in public transport for 1.5 hour everyday .but he very scrooge ...dun even order drink when go for lunch together he will bring his own water. and he seldom dine at resturant...cos he said waste money .. his TV home appliance also 2nd hand

not much financial committments
im working on attachment now, so taking this chance to calculate roughly how much will be my spendings in working life.. been taking down all my spendings outside for the past month, including donation to charity.. lol.. not a pretty sight. lol.. -
for girls of course being out of a job is nothing to worry about...in fact i'll quote bear & tell you to "rejoice!" there's always the option of lying on your back in geylang & earning big bucks...tax free some more...great!

this is called preparing for uncertainty. you never know what life had in store for you. should you one day become unemployable or meet with an unfortunate disaster (touch wood), these savings can tide you by. living lavishly does not fall into the equation of living comfortably. you sow what you seed.

I think if u have a take home pay of $3k to $4k (and a total of about $6K with your spouse) with , can comfortably get a car of about $50K and a 5 room flat of about $400k lah.. -

actually, i dun find ur fren's financial plans scroogey but more of being prudent. Do you know that for every $10 you spend on food at a restaurant, only $1- 2 goes to the food? Water is even more bo hua.. I admit I'm also a Giam kana!
but at least my idea of financial planning is to save on daily expenses so that, once a year, you can go for a nice holiday.

well i do admire your fren.The only way i could save during my NSF days was to open another bank account, on the 10th of each mth, i would withdraw half of my allowance and deposit into that bank, than live on the rest of the mth on the remaining amt. Being frugal is a virtue, but how you intend to be frugal can be quite an interesting sight. I got this housemate in mel currently.Intially when me and him arrived here to study, we used to do grocery shopping etc, then many a times, he claimed that he didn't withdraw money,so i just paid for the stuff upfront first.then many a times..he would simply forget abt his grcoery stuff and during meal times ( we cook ourselves) he would always be eating the most, literally stuffing himself full.i had to knock on his door frequently to settle the groceries payment with receipts mthly, and he still count count the cents difference i calculated wrongly..
then he would lament to us how his parents would remit him a small amt of money per mth and its very hard for him to get by....cutting the long story short, once he tried to claim back trashbag ,toliet paper and washing detergent money from my house residence advisor, even though we agreed upon going room by room buying of such common stuff... -

However, he is pretty lucky that he and his wife is like that. But sounds so much like my relatives who had two kids. Wife earns more than $10k a month. Husband earns like $5k-$7k, he gets about 7 mths bonus every yr.
He very stingy one...he refuse to change his car...pump the cheapest petrol. Even his children says he stingy.
He even work PT as insurance agent to earn more....he also buys and invest alot. Haiz... -
