i would say it depends on ur state of relationship w ur gf.. if u just get together only n still in e very early state, of coz ur family will be v angry if u side w her.
if u 're very steady w ur gf already, i think ur family will be able to understand n will talk things out..

Well, is true that she can't get along with his family because the guy might be also cannot get along with her family. So in the end, the guy still have to suffer from his wife and his family then they started to say "wah, you want wife, don't want mother already or "I can't get along with yr mum, choose me or her"
