I was there earlier also.. abt 3 fire trucks were outside the PLaza sing..
someone said that it was the crystal shop outside JL that was on fire? anyway, the whole 1st floor was smokey, and u can smell a very strong burnt plastic from outside.
Damn funny lah.. cos everyone was evacuated outside, a lot of people were on their hand phone-> talking as if PS is gonna get burnt down like dat. Some ppl were even taking pics with their digi cams n HP. -

Fire scare: 5,000 evacuated from Plaza Singapura

A SMALL fire at Plaza Singapura shopping mall last night caused a scare and an evacuation of the entire building, including the cinema complex.
ORDERLY MOVE: All the escalators were switched to move downwards as about 5,000 people were evacuated from the mall at about 7.45 pm yesterday, after a small fire broke out on the second floor. -- BRYAN VAN DER BEEK
About 5,000 people were in the mall when the evacuation took place at about 7.45pm. The fire is believed to have started at an electrical box outside the Marks and Spencer store on the second floor.
Firefighters arrived in two fire engines and two Red Rhino fire-fighting vehicles and put out the blaze in two minutes, said a spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Smoke was detected at about 7.40pm, said the management of the Orchard Road mall. Initially, only those on the second and third levels were evacuated. Later, everyone in the nine-floor building, including its two basements, were asked to leave.
Sales manager Grace Chua, 32, who was shopping in Marks and Spencer when the fire started, said: 'The smoke was very thick and pungent.'
Movie-goers on the seventh floor said they too could smell it. Miss Cindy Siah, 17, a student, said the lights came on halfway into the Batman Begins movie. 'We were told to stay calm and wait for instructions to evacuate,' she added.
There was no panic, said Mr Richard Ang, 45, a businessman: 'People were very orderly and that helped everyone to stay calm.'
Within half an hour, at about 8.10pm, everyone was allowed back into the mall. -
