Remeber the fire in PS a few days ago?
Some dinners were refused exit from Swensen until they paid up even when the fire alarm was ringing.
Now on Today's newspaper, page 15, swensen PS is offering a waiver of service charge to all customer this weekend.
Is this waiver enough?
I think not. They should offer Totally Free dinning as a good practise of "Not to prevent dinners from getting out when there is a fire". Also I think they should do it at least a weekend twice yearly. Only then, it will bring back my confidence in Swensen. I don't want to be cooked when I was supposed to be eating cooked food.

Boycott? yeah, thats my take. I think Swensen is trying to get off the hook too easily.

i doubt so. now they still cant get the point and is trying to buy their way around....

Waiver of service charge? Hahahaha!!! What service? I still say the authorities should suspend their business license for at least 6 months, sack the manager and perhaps file criminal charges.

if the fire is far away..if not mistaken JL and Swensen are two extreme end on the same level....i would pay and left the place w/o finishing my food.
to be fair to swensen, getting the patron to pay is their rights to do so. If you feel that ur life is threaten, just leave ur contact details behind and run away.
there are 2 sides to the coin, what is right and wrong is difficult to draw the line -

Ok.... I guess i can offer a "semi-professional" opinion to this issue: (me not working for Plaza Sing / swensons / SCDF)
1. Modern buildings are now equipped with fire safety management software and evacuation SOPs.. (any SCDF person here to clarify)
2. In a event of a fire, compartmentation can be done to isolate the fire to its original point.
3. Sprinklers will be activated as a"first-aid" fire fighting tool..
4. Such buildings will also have sufficient emergency exits for the shoppers and staff to leave in a orderly manner.
5. There will also be adequate time for all to leave orderly.
Of course, the panic instinct will set in, as smoke will make people panic. so, dun blame people for wanting to escape the building ASAP.
Swensons, or any other business, have the right to ask the customers to pay.
But on the softer side of PR skills, the manager could have taken the discretion to let people leave.. $$ for that evening can be claimed through insurance. Also, wat is takings for that evening compared to the $$ they make?
