Free medical fee? Looking from the side of the law, they can be sued quite badly, in fact very badly.
The restaraunt is responsible for the safety of their customers. -

I hope SCDF steps in and hand swensen's a big fine for breaching fire safety.
They can't just get away with things like this by waiving off the service charge. cos:
1) The managers at swensen obviously has no regards for customer safety. We are just fortunate that this is only a small fire that was contained. Had there been a bigger fire, then a tragedy would have occured, all over a stupid decision to make that extra few hundred dollars.. That few minutes where they q to pay $$ could have saved lives.
2) The people who will benefit from the waiver will most likely NOT be the ppl who were there during the fire.
3) They think they are selling petrol ah? give 10% discount (off service charge) for 2 days. Like big deal right?

If GV can cut short a movie for the safety of their customers while offering a free replacement ticket for every patron as compensation, i dun see how Swensens cannot practice the same doctrine, while claiming from insurance the loss in revenue.
It's a bad case of PR for the restaurant.

Some dinners were refused exit from Swensen until they paid up even when the fire alarm was ringing.
Now on Today's newspaper, page 15, swensen PS is offering a waiver of service charge to all customer this weekend.
Is this waiver enough?
I think not. They should offer Totally Free dinning as a good practise of "Not to prevent dinners from getting out when there is a fire". Also I think they should do it at least a weekend twice yearly. Only then, it will bring back my confidence in Swensen. I don't want to be cooked when I was supposed to be eating cooked food.

swensons is gonna have a tough time ahead i see... i will support the boycott, although i will miss the baked rice...
