Do u like serangoon & hougang areas?

Have lived my wholelife in these areas..They have changed a bit compared to 10 years ago. But it has a rich history and culture
1)Hougang ave 9 Hougang mall ,Hougang green, Hougang point has been around since 90s for HDB dwellers.Previously they were not so densely populated and not well known too..Witht he start of NEL line, they got more exposure..This area is near to Kovan. Hougang MRT is found here
2)Kovan has been revamped with the new Heartland Mall & Kovan MRT station. Impressive compared to before when the area looked like a ghostown in the 90s. The older one was Kovan centre since the mid 90s. Can find many churches and small private schools here.Some of these schools u may never heard before like Our Lady of Lourdes, Parry and Serangoon Sec. They are tucked inside a huge maze of private property probably the biggest concentration in Singapore. Most of these schools may be privately owned and run or very old and been around since pre independence Singapore
3)Serangoon Garden area has been revamped as well...This huge private property area is part of Kovan one of my fave and one of the oldest well known of all these areas...it has Chomp Chomp and so many things to do here...Rich people stay in this area..most o.It has a rich social air around it....Life here is good because it had a relaxed cosy feel similar to other countries HDB dwellers from the nearby Hougang and Serangoon frequent this area as well.
4) Serangoon North well known for its residential pet shops. Other than that there isnt much to do here. Many old schools here as well. Like Serangoon and Nanyang JC. Mostly for HDB dwellers -

Heartland Mall was Oriental Emporium previously. Miss the ice-cream palour on level 3. They serve maggie mee. I miss the auntie's maggie mee.. got her own unique flavour.
The bus interchange with a "mama-shop" right in the centre next to the 322 & 326 queues. Now converted to a big carpark. No more free parking... even the carpark behind Mcdonald's will start charging.
There was a mini pte crocodile farm along upper serangoon juz next to a row of old shophouses. That bus-stop stand was juz outside 1 old bakery. Free smell for all. Walk on further & u'll reach USSC!
And that small orange bus-stop @ the circus.. most happening bus-stop after school.. where the CHIJ gals meet the Serangoon Garden Sec & Serangoon Garden Technical boys.. busy busy!
I miss the gd old Hougang & Serangoon days...

Hougang St 21 was originally planned as the town centre. A change in plan shifted the town centre up north.

The cinemas are gone... but the food courts and coffee-shops are blooming like mushrooms after rain. Seems like the Hougang and Serangoon citizens only like to eat, but not to watch.
Or maybe they don't like watching movies in their home town. -

No, the bus of course is not in the middle of the roundabout. The school Serangoon Sec has moved to a new location in hougang.
Previously it was so uloo that u need to walk into a maze of private property to get to it.
I used to say beside there. Anyone here frequented the chinese mamak shop near serangoon sec (lowland road)? SSS students always hang there last time. -

Anybody remember the Japanese Cemetery near Sandilands Rd? it is still there now.
Quite feaky especially at night....Heard dat it has got a very old history and some ppl happened to chance upoun supernatural activity. Dunnoe if their claims are true or not....
also anyone remembers this church there called Church of the Nativity of Virgin Mary or sumthing?
cant seem to recall clearly. Is that the name? And what are the other churches there? I beleive there are a few in the maze of private housing -
serangoon sec has always been a real ulu kampong school, its actually very old, it was founded in 1928. Back then it serve the kampoungs in that area. The relocated serangoon is located further up upper serangoon road, besides serangoon river.
its old uniform was similar to those of chinese schools with epulettes. -
yes very old school . it was i think neglected by the Govt too becuase up till 2000 too , it was not renovated. basically it stood the same for more than 30 years since 1960s..a real genuine piece of vintage antique! Think after 2000 the school moved to a new one as the authorities thought it may be useless to continue there.
