The humans didn't really defeat the martians at all, the martians were doomed from the moment they invaded us, the movie focuses more on like during the invasion then the invasion itself, but you haven't noticed.
In the novel, the martians have absolutely no knowledge of microbiological life as despite their advanced technology, never occured to them as they had never encountered this form of life, and their total lack of immunity meant that their bodies were easily pickings for microbes, though the odd thing was that they took so long to start dying but hey, it's fiction.
And the destruction of the tripods by the humans had little to do with the martian's defeat, they would have died in the end anyway, though their loss of shields and their dying pilots would have made the tripods easy pickings for the humans, that is, before if they don't crash them before they are destroyed.
If you were watching this in hope to see an ID4 like movie (which actually borrows ideas from war of the worlds, abbet done hollywood style), you certainly would be dissapointed for this was hardly every the point of the movie. If you haven't noticed, it isn't really an action movie, it is the dramatization of the novel which delves on a lot of topics like human nature and the reversal from hunter to prey, the character development from an inept father to who he finally became and the like, rather then just humans vs. aliens. In which case I would play Halo 2, Master Chief would just walk all over them.
Yes I wished they showed more scenes of us kicking alien ass but I think that would have diluted the movie somewhat, and there are enough of these shows done anyway. The last action sequence where the platoon took out the tripod with ATGMs was adequate...
If anything, this is the best alien invasion movie yet, for a long time.
now i understoood...thanks there
I think throughout the movie, it was good but well the ending was weak. The explanation for the destruction of the tripods were at its best, lame. I do not deny the movie really got me interested as it progresses on but the ending is truly disappointing. To think the explanation was done by a narrator in 3 or 4 sentences, i think thats trying to pull a fast one.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:And the relationship between Ray and his daugther Rachel... that was fantastically crafted and extremely well done... especially towards the end.
the movie is from the book.Originally posted by octega:We are talking about the movie here not the book eh![]()
