  I guess it doesn't matter which language, english or chinese they speak.. They are all not proper.. Singapore is one "unique" place, infamous for its broken languages, unlike other countries, people here cannot speak even one perfect language..

  I speak both to different sets of friends lor cos they also different background but doesnt mean one is better than the other just kind of a habit for them. As for English and Mandarin, I have preference for different situations. In terms of reading, i prefer English. In terms of speech, I would veer more towards Mandarin. In terms of songs, I would rather die than listen to Mandarin songs. SO there, both languages are good lah... see how u use it nia....

  Agree. Somehow I read/write english very fast, but only speaks fast with mandarin.. Have to think and rethink a sentence before blabbering.. Anyway, sad to say, after studying chinese for like 10 years from pri to jc, we wun be using it even a bit when we go uni.. Even a module on chinese heritage is taught in english..

  Depends on family background.
  If yr family are English educated/ from mission sch. u will definately clique with same type of pple. Similarly u speak Malay students lunching/ mixing together.
  
  Arts Students are mostly Eng. speaking cos they are good in Literature & Humanities whereas Sc. students (incl. China scholars) are mainly Chinese speaking.
