Westernised Singaporeans listen to English songs only.Originally posted by dunnowat:is it tru dat poly peeps oni listen to chinese songs and JC students indulge in mainly english song?? also dat poly ppl tok in mandarin whilst JC guys converse in english?
i think one thing that would explain what you noticed would be the subjects they are taking. medicine i not sure but i'm pretty sure you have to read the text till they rot alot and they are all in english. law well i'm pretty sure you know their english or legalese must be very good and since they have to use it so much..........Originally posted by finance_geek:I feel whether one converses in English or not depends very much on his family backround and not what sort of institution he/she attends.
I have noticed those from an affluent family backround where parents are highly educated converse mainly in English whereas the opposite is true for those with a different backround. This is a generalisation and exceptional circumstances may arise though.
I have also noticed that those from medicine, law, business, accountancy and arts faculties converse mainly in English as well whereas the opposite is true for those from the Engineering schools.Once again, there may be exceptions, albeit in minority.
It would be interesting to study this trend to know why certain disciplines appeal more to English speakers.
so i listen to Jpop, canto pop and 80s rock . . .what am I???Originally posted by ne0matrix:Westernised Singaporeans listen to English songs only.

Language is a tool to communicate with others, not to show how classy one is, hence this show tat those ppl with this type of thinking still very immatured. As a chinese, u dun want n dunno how to speak ur own language is already an insult, in stead still have the gut n face to say others language.Originally posted by shade343:Yah I agree...one of my cousin from Hwa Chong speaks chinese ,looks down on those that learn Japanese and thinks that those that keep speaking english are dumb.
My other cousin from RGS thinks that Hwa Chong guys are low class or have no class
. She prefers guys from ACS(I) and RI who have class and speaks good english.
