Poly students and JC students???

  Not really.. hwa chong most likely are blabbering in english..
  I guess whether people speaks english or mandarin really depends on which secondary or high school they came from.. kinda late to switch when you are in JC or poly eh?

  HEy...sorry guys...Am in a poly and am from the business school.I converse with my friends and lecturers in English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Teo Chew, swear in malay and tamil yeah.So what am i?Multilingual?hahah

  actually u have to see which sec sch does the students come from. those from christian sch mostly speak eng while the rest mostly chinese. in my jc, 2 kinds of ppls, ppls who speak only eng and the other one bilingual. for the latter, there's some sucks in eng though. thus, for bilingual like me, i had to speak in eng to those kentang and those who speaks better in eng. speak chinese to those who are real singaporeans (u noe what i mean). think poly is about the same. ya, of course those who are kentang dont listen to chinese songs, only eng ones. for chinese-speaking students, we listen to either eng or chinese or even both.

  why always compare poly students with jc students?
  
  they all are students, i.e. all human beings.
  
  i have poly friends who only speak english
  and jc friends who feel more comfortable conversing in mandarin.
  
  what's the big deal. as long you know mandarin and english, i don't see any problem with that.

  arts well my impression of arts subjects is you must write essays very often, alot if not all of them very long. so i guess you must be proficient in english and proficiency would indicate you are comfortable using the language and thus you use it more.
  
  engin cos engin is not language intensive you do not need to smoke so much thus you will fall back or have leeway in language you choose and thus more singlish

  i'm a jc student but i listen to chinese song... in fact almost the whole class listens to chinese songs..
  
  as for the second part, sometimes we converse in chinese, english or a mixture of both...

  Notice nowadays more n more young kid also speak in english. Think its those yuppies children, they tot speak english will make them high class den others but all broken... haha. All kang tang in the making..

  Yah I agree... one of my cousin from Hwa Chong speaks chinese ,looks down on those that learn Japanese and thinks that those that keep speaking english are dumb. My other cousin from RGS thinks that Hwa Chong guys are low class or have no class. She prefers guys from ACS(I) and RI who have class and speaks good english.

  Language is a tool to communicate with others, not to show how classy one is, hence this show tat those ppl with this type of thinking still very immatured. As a chinese, u dun want n dunno how to speak ur own language is already an insult, in stead still have the gut n face to say others language.
