  "Dell" is my fist choice!
  
  Sharp, Sony, HP also not bad!
  
  But I suggest you stay away with "Ac*r", most of my frens said got a lot of problem!

  My dad has a toshiba laptop....and i really tink it suck big time.....Wont ever buy another toshiba....anyway.....im voting for fujitsu and apple....

  I've said this before,I own both a Fujitsu and a Toshiba,the former sucks big time.The Toashibas don't look as nice,but in terms of performance,they are superior.

  not too sure if Fujitsu or Acer has this feature, one of IBM trademark feature is the modular device system where the CD-ROM can be detached from its bay and replaced with another cd like a DVD Rom writer or extra HDD etc..
  
  IBM is the only laptop i seen so far thats build quality been gd. Its LCD screen hinges are made of metal and not plastic unlike others espeically when ur opening the the screen, the screen thens to bend and feel flimsy i would say it.
  
  Another gd laptop brand i used is the Apple iBook and Powerbook series of laptops.
  
  If you are able to sretch your money purse , go for an IBM T series . If not a HP/Compaq or Toshiba will be a gd option as well.
  
  If u intend to stay in hostel and got plenty of time to download stuff using the schools broadband servers, its gd to consider a DVD-Writer combo.

  if i know tt i will not be using cd-rom drive, i will remove it
  lightens the load.....
  i can oso switch drives.....like cd-rw, dvd-rw.......

  I recalled vaguely how my fren was telling us to activate the warrenty on your Dell machine, u got to call their customer service hotline and quote your motherboard number right ? if not there will not be any warrenty on your dell machine..Pls correct me if i am wrong here

  Im not sure about that, but they claim that dell has no initiative in helping them, like it took them 2 weeks to get their laptop repaired....and after repaired, laptop crashed again in 3 weeks...
