I don't know how many Electronic engineers in Singapore are paid that amount...
oh..i should study hard n move over to chinaOriginally posted by Glen999:in shanghai, beijing such a big city, people who work in MNC get higher pay than singaporeans working in singapore.
My friend is a china man. Accidentally, i know that his pay is around USD9000 per month. After verifying with a few internal sources, we realized that this is what our company will pay in Beijing & Shangai for a average assistant manager and manager.
Beijing & shanghai are short of white collar people. MNCs are digging other MNC's talents. Thus coz such a high pricee tag. however, blue collar still got pepper pay. (nowadays, I cannot use peanut pay anymore as it's trademarked by Mrs GCT)![]()
I have the same thought like you. thought that it was a few cases considering that china is a low cost world factory. however, it's wrong. The low cost is in china but not in shanghai / beijing. Such cities are already invaded by big MNCs and there is a big gap between city pay and rural pay. as well as between white collar pay and blue collar pay.Originally posted by findingnewidea:This doesn't sound scientific enough.
We need to look at the statistical view of the China pay in total. 90k/year might represent only a very small percentage. Just like in Singapore we can also find very very good pay job too, but it limits to a few positions only.
On the other hand, talking about the United States, their tax structure is very high too. The left over might not be as good as you think. But I do agree they are still better compared to Singapore because of lower housing and car prices. Especially their currency is strong at the moment.
It is same as you work in Singapore and retire later in China. You will become like a king there also. Living in a big house and driving big car.
We need to look at the big picture. Not a few rare cases without understanding the background.
MNC in SG and max 5 to 6k/mth? you mean to the local SG'rean' but the FT are getting 20k and above.Originally posted by NuLife:
u sure its Sing$ and not RMB$???
chinese article difficult to read leh...
but i know if i go china, i can still get the same pay in S$,
and much lower expenses.
Its a well-known fact that engineers in spore are not Recognised,
are Exploited and Underpaid.... myself an engineer....
unless u work for government agency like DSO.
US EE/SW engineers avg pay is US$90K/yr. Fresh grad gets US$40-55K/yr.
Good senior Indian engineers are up to US$35-50+/yr in india.
MNC in sg pays 4-6 yr experienced senior eng gets
abt 4.5K/mth ~65K/yr (incl cpf) ~US$38K/yr
More senior shud be $5-6K/mth ~$US50K and thats only a few MNC
Local SME shld be much lower.
Nowdays alot asking for <$3.5K/mth and contracts somemore...
exploiting the poor economy.
But then again, Spore/India engs standard cannot compare w US/Europe.
Problem is , Even if he is Damnn Good, he still gets Lousy pay.
Thats why no one wants to be engineers nowadays....

local oni 4 to 6k/mth? need not be the case? LTA itself have engineers who are paid 15k up to 25k/mth or even more. as for government agency like DSO, if you are under paid does not mean other are as well. it what "link" you have that all.
now u must state clearly which peanut leh....the 5cent one or 600K one....got a bug dif leh....Originally posted by About A GaL:......and we are also paid peanuts
you think anyone is born interested in engineering or take up engineering as a hobby so that he can build a car/something?Originally posted by finance_geek:The calibre of local grads pursuing engineering is bad.Not because they lack ability, more because they are studying in a course where they have no interest whatsoever. Mainly there because they were indecisive when choosing a course in uni.

Engineer is no longer as popular as it use to and alot of good engineering folks have left for their pot of gold across other sectors.
working in an engineering firm, i can see that spore born and breed engineers are less than 50% of the workforce.
we just dont have enough folks with relevant experiences locally for the jobsgovt is not doing enough.
what i see, is the whole engineering industry is getting a hit
somehow the edu system here could not chunk out enugh good engineers.Originally posted by kops21:working in an engineering firm, i can see that spore born and breed engineers are less than 50% of the workforce.
