Electronic Engineers in Guandong province, China are paid up to S$90k/yr!! That is equivalent to S$7.5K/month!

but i know if i go china, i can still get the same pay in S$,
and much lower expenses.
Its a well-known fact that engineers in spore are not Recognised,
are Exploited and Underpaid.... myself an engineer....
unless u work for government agency like DSO.
US EE/SW engineers avg pay is US$90K/yr. Fresh grad gets US$40-55K/yr.
Good senior Indian engineers are up to US$35-50+/yr in india.
MNC in sg pays 4-6 yr experienced senior eng gets
abt 4.5K/mth ~65K/yr (incl cpf) ~US$38K/yr
More senior shud be $5-6K/mth ~$US50K and thats only a few MNC
Local SME shld be much lower.
Nowdays alot asking for <$3.5K/mth and contracts somemore...
exploiting the poor economy.
But then again, Spore/India engs standard cannot compare w US/Europe.
Problem is , Even if he is Damnn Good, he still gets Lousy pay.
Thats why no one wants to be engineers nowadays.... -
CEOs in us also paid much higher than CEOs in sg.......

My friend is a china man. Accidentally, i know that his pay is around USD9000 per month. After verifying with a few internal sources, we realized that this is what our company will pay in Beijing & Shangai for a average assistant manager and manager.
Beijing & shanghai are short of white collar people. MNCs are digging other MNC's talents. Thus coz such a high pricee tag. however, blue collar still got pepper pay. (nowadays, I cannot use peanut pay anymore as it's trademarked by Mrs GCT)

sigh... engineers get paid so little n yet have to study so long n so much. no wonder so many pp with engineering degree dun work as engineers. engineering degree/ engineer got future or not? -

This doesn't sound scientific enough.
We need to look at the statistical view of the China pay in total. 90k/year might represent only a very small percentage. Just like in Singapore we can also find very very good pay job too, but it limits to a few positions only.
On the other hand, talking about the United States, their tax structure is very high too. The left over might not be as good as you think. But I do agree they are still better compared to Singapore because of lower housing and car prices. Especially their currency is strong at the moment.
It is same as you work in Singapore and retire later in China. You will become like a king there also. Living in a big house and driving big car.
We need to look at the big picture. Not a few rare cases without understanding the background. -

I have the same thought like you. thought that it was a few cases considering that china is a low cost world factory. however, it's wrong. The low cost is in china but not in shanghai / beijing. i think you must understand the background. this is the fact.
for example: most of the poeple in singapore stay in HDB/Condo. however, in bukit timah. people stay in landed property. -
Transport in all china city is still RMB1 or S$0.20. They will not charge you more if you are earning S$90K a month.
But yes, do read that article with a pinch of salt as not much is said about statistics in that article. Still it has it's use to initate this topic and let the rest see how poorly paid engineers are in Singapore.
So who is thinking of migrating? -

local oni 4 to 6k/mth? need not be the case? LTA itself have engineers who are paid 15k up to 25k/mth or even more. as for government agency like DSO, if you are under paid does not mean other are as well. it what "link" you have that all. -
Every country in the world will have so called "hot shot" jobs with generous remuneration,even here in Singapore.
Sadly,but its a well known fact,not many SIngaporeans have to aptitude nor the ability to fill these vacancies.Im not saying that it doesnt happen,but its limited to the minority of Singaporeans whose contributions to the organisation are world class.Hence,the need to import foreign talent to fill them up.
So,this job in China pays 90k/annum.How many of us here are actually capable enough to meet the requirements.With extra pay,comes stringent requirements.Nothing in this world is free.
As a matter of fact,this guy I know in school is one of the top students around in terms of academic achievements and accolades outside of the classroom.He was offered a job by a top inernational bank with STARTING pay of around SGD8k/month.Such jobs do exist,but its only for people like him.
We think our academic institutions dish out top grads,but I beg to differ.Grads from IIM/IIT in India and Tsinghua Biz Sch(Beijing) get offers paying even more than what our local grads earn.We're simply not good enough.Sad but true. -

Yes. I refer to engineers. Most seniors will be staff/principal/lead engineers.
But there are exceptions meaning more than what i state and very few i must say. So many wil go into managements.
Eg Project manager, R&D Manager.
The thing abt local SMEs is that many project managers are actually
those who didn't excel in R&D themselves and yet wants to lead R&D
engineers with lower pay than him.
Whereas in US R&D engineers pay can be as higher or higher than managers.
This shows their recognition for R&D talents.
But of cos the avg engineers there now have to suffer from global
outsourcing trends too.
Generally engineering talents are not recognised in Spore.
All engineers, regardless or how good u are, in the eyes of
a company/boss, is just an another engineer, just like another indian/china engineer.
LTA engineers are not considered EE engineers anyways.
Yes, DSO engineers are well known to be damn highly paid in the industry,
esp in the past.
But whether they are paid right for their jobs, i have my reserved views,
cos the government wil always argue they are doing defence-related jobs
of national importantance, and they are employing 'scholars'. -

The irony is, despite the known fact that the engineering sector
in sg has to shift from bring manufacturing focused
to R&D focused, there simply isn't enough recognition for R&D.
Its a tough discipline where only the brightest can persue
yet no recognition and low-pay.
Just how can we move up the value chain if there isn't recognition?
I have to say there had been improvement lately, esp from the governemnt side,
but i haven't see any true reflections in terms of R&D engineers pay.
Infact, it is getting worse. -
The best enginnering undergrads work for banks,and they're mostly from India/China.
The calibre of local grads pursuing engineering is bad.Not because they lack ability,more because they are studying in a course where they have no interest whatsoever.Mainly there because they were indecisive when choosing a course in uni. -

It is a fact that people pursuit of career where the big bucks are...(as a general)...
Engineer is no longer as popular as it use to and alot of good engineering folks have left for their pot of gold across other sectors.
working in an engineering firm, i can see that spore born and breed engineers are less than 50% of the workforce.
we just dont have enough folks with relevant experiences locally for the jobs
govt is not doing enough.
what i see, is the whole engineering industry is getting a hit -

I do not agree on ur first statement. Thou im not sure abt india/china,
its always the case that it is those who cannot do R&D
and with lousy grades ended up in finance sector,
usually with another finance-related master degree.
I have seen so many examplse.
Well, its really up to individual interest anyways.
But I can tell u they are far from the brightest engineers who go into finance.
I agree that local grads on the avg really sucks.
I feel the angmohs are so much better in practical designs.
Thats why innovations still come from the west.
I rmbr when i was studying in UK, i really feel so peiseh that
many sg/malaysian students cant do nuts when it comes to practical.
But when it comes to exams, they score really well.

who would want to do R&D when other jobs like
sales/test/manufacturing engineering are
-so much easier (meaning u do not need the brains to do well)
-pays alright
-do not have to compete with cheap china/india engineers
-do not need to try satisfy your boss who know nuts. -

And i wish to add. The problems with the avg local engineers is that
they lack pride in their work and lack ambitions as well.
most are easily satisfied. the typical nice guy nerdy characters,
not considered bad traits, but not good enuf to drive the economy.
I see some of my frens who get 1st class honors easily satisfied w a job.
Its usually those who get 2nd upper and lower who ended up doing better in their jobs. And particularly, the local uni grads are less dynamics.
I really wish i know more engineering frens
who has the passion to break new grounds and new heights.
The R&D scene in spore is so lacklustre. -
