i've always said at work, you pay people peanuts and u get monkeys.
i didn't know her peanuts were that big. -
so now can have closure.
she has already regretted her remark. so let it go.
everyone can now move on. -
mr goh say on her behalf for fear if let her say,wait lagi worst coz wait she suka suka anyhow say again....

SM Goh indirectly pointed out one important lesson - public person needs to take extra caution of sensitivity in their speech. What they say means a lot to commoner.

Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said his wife, who is the former patron of NKF, regretted saying that the charity's ex-CEO Mr TT Durai's annual pay package of some S$600,000 was "peanuts".
Mr Goh spoke to the media about the issue at a school celebration on Saturday.
Mrs Goh's remark on Mr Durai's annual salary on Tuesday raised many eyebrows and upset many more.
Senior Minister Goh said his wife now regretted making that comment.
He added: "When she told me what she said at home, I told her immediately, you're in trouble. There'll be negative reaction and sure enough the next day, Singaporeans reacted generally quite critically to her remarks and it's understandable because NKF is a charity and Singaporeans contribute to the NKF and they don't earn much."
Mr Goh added that he shared the public's sentiments and showed Mrs Goh several emails and letters he had received about her remarks.
Mr Goh said: "To educate her I showed her the letters and emails and now I think she understands better what she said was not quite in order but she explains why she said it. She told me that she was thinking of the organisation, she said that if you look at the organisation, the right person must be paid the right wage, but of course she put it across that way, the rest is history."
Senior Minister Goh said Mrs Goh's resignation as NKF's patron was a separate matter.
She has decided to step down as she felt the new NKF board might want to start afresh by appointing another patron or even go without one.
On the NKF, Mr Goh said he's pleased with the way Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan handled the matter, and agreed that the appointment of Gerard Ee as the interim CEO is a right one.
Going forward, he hopes the new board will review NKF's management practices and suggest areas for improvement. - CNA /ch[/b]

You know, I'm glad that there is finally something said about the entire thing.....maybe Singapore got "qiu" after all....
A lesson I've learned is that I now strive to earn and save and invest until I have $600K.....I will then be proud that I have earned "peanuts"! -
I surprise that once a great leader ,PM of Singapore which command
so many diff class of people day to day.
But if he think his wife make a mistake which annoy Singaporean.
He as a Ex PM or SM or our government top minister should have ask
the wife to apologise to public.
This is the right way to be sincere since after all his wife make it the issue in
the first place.
But sad to say he cant even do it.
Now he have to apologise to media on his wife behalf.

If Mrs Goh comes out and say sorry, she would not be able to get the acceptance of her apology by the general public since she is not exposed to the public very much and hence not much rapport with the people.
For Mr Goh however, everyone knows him, everyone knows how he do things, everyone knows his charisma and rapport with the people.
Thus, having Mr Goh come out, clarify the issue for his wife is a very good way to solve the entire problem. Easier to end this matter.... -

but until now still no apologies. GCT just beat around the bush. seem like husband and wife still feel that big pay checks are justifiable.
i have a feeling the nkf would not change after this incident, worst still the rot and greed, money culture could spread to other charities. sad .... -

I dunnoe what fellow forumites think, but my thoughts when someone said "I am regretful" actually meant "I am sorry to myself"; in other words, it is more of the guilty comforting himself. The best is the guilty feels guilty. The apologethic feeling doesn't extend to a second person.
But when someone says "I am sorry to what i have done", it goes further than being regretful. Now the state of being regretful involves a second person. There is a more positive air of being truely sorry.
Think of it this way:
I am regretful = Shouting "I am going out now"
I am sorry - Shouting to Mum, "I am sitting on a chair now"
Of course different people have different definition of regret and sorry. You can comment on what you think.
As for me, I still want a plain out-right apology that kopitiam uncles and aunties can easily understand and not a twist of words or indirect apology. It can be something like this: "Dear fellow Singaporeans, I am sorry for my peanuts remark on 12th July 2005. I hereby convey my deepest apology to all of you and retract my peanuts remark. I will not make such insensitve remarks again."
