Firstly, the birth ratio for Male and Female have always been roughly 52%/53% to 48%/47%. The reason being,
1. Female live longer than male so there is a need for more male
2. Male when compared to Female, have a weaker determination to survive that why when babies got into trouble during childbirth, it is the female that survive usually.
Therefore in order for the ratio to be balanced thus the discrepancies in the ratio of childbirth.
It is maybe a act of god to balance our population

There are more young guys than girls (Age 1 to 40)
but there are more old women than man (Age 40 to 80) -

the reason for there being more women after 40 as compared to men is this: men are traditionally involved in more dangerous jobs, say for example, dangerous civilian jobs like deep sea diving, off-shore oil rig digging, and dangerous military jobs like bomb squad, special forces, and these days it seems, being in the army itself. thus, higher exposure to hazardous and potentially fatal incidents naturally lead to a drop in the number of males around.Originally posted by seancannot:YOU ARE RITE ON!!

on top of that, males have a higher tendency to kill themselves, not all the time intentionally, and also each other. i don't know of suicide rates, but lots of males generally like speeding, in the wrong places...as always, same theory applies, higher occurance, higher chances of shit happening.
also, as for the X & Y chromosome? males have XY, while females have XX...that's why in DNA tests, they always trace back to the maternal side of the person due to the fact that the X chromosome is common in the family tree. Y chromosome on the other hand is being used now in a new study to track the movements and evolution of people quite the same way as blood type was used some time ago. just so you know -

it is the male who determines the sex of the child. anybody who had basic biology lessons knows that. a ger's chromosome is XX and a guy's is XY.
"In humans, sex is determined by the male. Sperm cells contain an X or a Y chromosome but egg cells contain only X chromosomes. If a sperm cell carrying an X chromosome fertilizes the egg the resulting baby will be female; if the sperm cell is carrying a Y chromosome then the baby will be male."
so if the male is stessed, it may affect the quality of his sperm, which in turn will affect the sex of the baby.
of coz if a pregnant lady is stressed she will also affect the baby in many ways too, but there's no way she can affect the sex of the baby.

the ratio is still higher upto 15 years of age.
after that, on the main grouping there are more females; and of coz the elderly group is way higher (coz generally males are shorter-lived).
Why 15 year old males more... than suddenly lower?
Could it be many died in NS? oopss.... Could it be males migrate overseas? (shouldnt it be more females migrate overseas since we have many sarong party gers jumping onto any angmoh they can find and marrying off? )
There is evidence that industrialisation resulting in polluted air, water, radiation etc CAN affect life, and also the gender. there are animals which were so mutated that their gender is affected, resulting in "in-betweens". In heavily industralised areas, even the air is affected and cause the male to become "more female", and the mutated genes are passed on to the next generation. Kinda like a snow-ball effect.
