POLY vs JC

my 2 cents....
from newspaper, we already know that many engineering students are going to univ instead of poly, i.e. all prefer to go jc than poly, because when you go out to work, if you got only a poly dip, you are stuck with Engr.Asst, or technician, etc, but NEVER a full ENGINEER....remember that.
That's why many people who graduated in poly end up have to go to univ to take degree in B.tech etc..so that they can upgrade they jobs...
well, go poly unless you want to waste time....
But also from newspaper, the education structure is changing, now got high school immediately can go univ, also poly can go univ if you are top 15% no long top 5% and minus 1-2 years study in univ. so actually not much different. -
Totally agree... Is it becoz of ur background? U come from english speaking background n u will more probably go to jc. different people have diff abilities...everyone has their own niche..
ITE, Poly and JC have their own goodness of their own.
I've some friends who made the wrong decision of going to JCs. Likewise, I have friends who could do well in JC but wasted one more year in Poly(uni course he wanted doesn't let him reduce by 1 year - poly study 1 more year).
Some people are just good at hands-on stuffs, but suck at theory, planning and other paperworks, and vice versa. Both are important in their own right.
Not exactly true that JC people jia kantang. If you're talking about VJC, RJC, ACJC, SAJC, CJC then prob true. In others like HC, TJC, AJC, TPJC, SRJC, NYJC, it's about 50-50 and sometimes more pple speak more chinese than english.... -

Anyway, I'm jc kia and I scored C5 for my O lvl English...haha...but still I made the right decision...

IMO, Poly is the perfect balance between practicality and theory. JC students only know how to bury their heads in the books(tts the only way they can excel). While ITE students are mainly hands on. I just realised that ITE and Jc students both need to wear uniforms.

It's just a stereotype.....I just know too many JC pple who whole day play game(that time was gunbound and warcraft) or hang out...sleep or ponteng in both lectures and tutorials....but one thing true is that jc people are generally more exam-smart when it comes to the papers...It's also true that a greater proportion of jc people are more bookish(it's only natural since it's jc), but it's not that extreme...Originally posted by shade343:IMO, Poly is the perfect balance between practicality and theory. Some pple who are good in theory can actually be damn farking lazy, because they only needs 5 mins to understand and able do the questions when others may need 50 min...so they dun see the need to attend lectures and tutorials but knn everytime still get A
Basically, any jc below the rank of ajc(6th) is just farking slack... aiyah....such things are all up to individual - if you're good at socialising, you go JC still will socialise a lot in and out of school...if you are nerd, choose to go Poly still can be nerd what... -
i feels that if you wnt to be a doctor, lawyer, go jc will be a good choice. seriously if you wnt to go jc, you need to work very hard.....judging frm the number of jc now in singapore, the entry requirement for local uni will be increased, thus many ppl will fail to gain entry........
on the other hand, i have many friends that went poly and they dun wnt to go nus or ntu cos they are not offered the advance standing they feel they deserved. they chose to study in overseas uni like monash, uwa etc which ranking will not lose to ntu. the best part is, they need only one year to graduate. so they graduated faster than those jc students that went local uni.
there are discrimation against poly students in the past saying that they are worse than jc students. those comments are frm ignorant people. poly definitely offers a more pbl way of learning rather than jc which is mostly books and books....and poly grads can reallly get degree faster if they are not tied down by the idea that local uni are the "best". -
These daes, everyone opting to go to Poly instead of JC. U get more practical experience, whereas JC u learn nothing except paper paper and more paper.
If u fail to get into Uni then ur A level cert is like knn waste paper , can use it to wipe ur ass. A good friend of mine couldnt get into NUS cos he fail his Chinese but he half Japanese what?!?! Poly is different... the diploma can get u to work and also local uni accepting poly pple.

yah lah, quite true loh. but sometimes, once in a blue moon, you will get to see one or two girls in the entire school who looks very very chio and got great personality. by the way, when i say "great personality", i don't mean those who're helpful, kind and all that kinda angel-girl crap. i'm refering to those who are indifferent, stand out from the rest in terms of cool character, think differently from other girls and don't hang out in groups.......something like those cold career women kind of personality. like that very cool loh. some also got gangster-gangster attitude but not really punk lah.
in my whole life only got see less than 6.jc gals chioer than poly gals
not really lah. my stand is that poly girls are mostly prettier than jc ones, because poly got put on make-up and also know how to dress and doll up themselves. however, for jc.......there's a few very chio girls and these chio girls are even more chio than the chio ones in poly.
like a quality VS. quantity type of thing.take for instance i was attached to a computer repair shop for my 2nd year poly attachment, there was 2 ITE students working part time there. i found out that they actually know more stuffs than me. i ended up learning from them.
no lah.....because ITE students come from very exciting and unique backgrounds one. unlike the JC and Poly folks, a lot of students in ITE are those who've gone out into the world to "chuang tian xia" before they enter ITE. they usually are bad in their studies but hang out every day at Orchard Rd and other places and that kind and in the end, learn a lot about the world loh. before they enter ITE, they also got work at a lot of jobs. like last time, got a few guys in my Information Tech. class work as informally-trained computer technicians in Sim Lim Square before they enter. they just lack the proper cert loh. even got a few finish their NS and join us.

rather true loh. in my army life, all the people that go to JC are those who speak English all the time in army. KNN. they listen to western rock, metal, love guitars, have Christian names and all that kinda "eat-potato" thing.
most of them tend to be rich and usually will drive a car(either family one or given by dad) by under the age of 22.
of course lah, got some JC people who are exceptions and don't "jiak-kan-tang", but these exceptions quite rare loh. and usually, these exceptions are rather the "outcasts" in the school lah.
KNN. someone join me and bring these phucking idiots to the toilet and force-phuck them hard. KNN. girls do boys, boys do girls lah. KNN. -

n also in my sec school yrs there has never been a instance when a poly staff,cher,stud come to our school for a talk...all i see is JC chers, students coming to my former school for a talk Shorter too. Cheaper? Definitely. So your cher does have a point.
