Seriously I think it's stupid rubbish for the police to come and prosecute the pregnant woman for her parking fines??
I mean so many criminal out there they don't investigate properly want to create such a laughing stock out for everybody to critize??
And also it's not the pregnant woman fault because she mention she had a car but no driving license and if her relative borrow her car and chalked up all those fine then they(police) should investigate this case properly instead of just issuing some warrant to capture an innocent person? This is kinda silly?
Just like this question lor...If a person borrow my car and they hit and run over somebody? So question am I guilty of murder? It's obviously silly when someone drive my car and they hit someone and I have to go to jail when I don't drive at all on that day?But police still come and persecute me and send me to jail? What kinda typical nonnsense is that?
Next, I think the court should be compensating the lady for not even finding out what happening and they just throw her in Jail?
An example from our case. A thai lady came to our country...Police keep checking on them and then throw her into jail for over 24hrs??So in the end the crown had to compensate the woman 200K or something? But I know is a lump amount of $$$...
I think for you guys judicial system should also follow some kinda conventions? -
There is nothing wrong with imprisoning a woman for a crime she has committed provided that the conditions of imprisonment are such as not to jeopardise any child whom she may be carrying within her womb.
I'm not sure whether the pregnant woman in question will be housed in conditions that are adequate to ensuring the safety of the child she is carrying.
As to Vivek's point about the child being imprisoned, let me say that the child, as it exists within the womb of the mother who is carrying it, is already imprisoned therein; and so it would not amount to imprisoning the child further by bringing about a situation wherein its mother should be imprisoned.
Lastly let me make it clear that abortion is murder, and this regardless of whether it is tolerated by teh state (as is the case with Singapore), and regardless of whether the abortion in question is procured by the mother or father of the child in question.
God's law does not respect persons: if a mother sins by procuring the abortion of her child, then she will be held to be every bit as guilty of murder (by the standards of God's moral law) as the father of the same child would himself be, if he had been the one who had instead procured this abortion.
In fact, according to these standards, the greater the degree of attachment that you might be expected naturally to have towards the one you kill, the greater the degree of pity which it might be expected of you to have had towards this particular person before killing him, the greater then shall be the guilt that you will incur upon yourself by killing this person.
It follows therefore that the slaughter of a child by its own mother would be deemed by God to be an even greater sin (other things being equal) than the slaughter of the same child by someone else who was unconnected with it by any natural tie of affection.

I think the lesson learnt is as long as you are a second class citizen (locally borned, untalented Singaporeans) just pay your fines. It is pointless to go through all the troubles. -

This reminds me of the Animal Farm story where all (smart and average) animals experienced freedom, independence and equality on independence day but as time went by, the smart animals changed the rules and the average animals got squeezed.
It may be considered a good thing to have but when bottomlines are concerned, it may not be a smart thing to have overly smart people running the country.

A pregnant woman sent to prison because of parking fines?! A questionable procedure of informing the accused littered with gaps and lapses.
Sure it was rather high-handed of our men in blue to throw her behind bars for what could have been arguably a crime of the lowest order.
But hey...you're missing the part about her going on honeymoon. The last day of which coinsided with the same day of her court hearing.
The details were spelt out clearly. They admitted being aware of the actual date.
With full knowledge of her own proceedings, she chose to play punk.

A law is a law. Laws are meant to be above anyone. Cannot anyhow give in. Otherwise want law for wat? Might as well use conscience to judge pple. And u know many good "actors/actresses" outside. Dun break the law if you dun want to be punished. Simple as that.

It's only fair to imprison the child along with its mother, so long as it the case that the imprisonment of its mother isn't going to add anything over and above what it is already experiencing by being confined to its mother's womb; otherwise, the imprisonment of the mother would force the child to partake of its mother's punishment in a more direct fashion and in a way which would cause it to experience something over and above what it is already experiencing by existing within its mother's womb.
The answer is clear: once the child is born, there is no reason not to liberate it from the cell in which its mother has been incarcerated.

If your conscience has been properly formed, then you will know that which is lawful; and if the law itself is just, then your conscience will enable you to know what its primary dictates are.
However, a conscience can be defectively formed and a law can be unjust; and so while there can be an opposition between your conscience and the law, this opposition will yet not be a necessary one.
How does this apply to the situation facing the pregnant woman?
Well, one can conscientiously feel that the woman in question must not be punished in such a way as will compromise the safety of the child, and believe that any law which suggests otherwise is necessarily unjust.
The woman, even if she is pregnant, deserves to be punished when and if she breaks the law; but because the child she is carrying is fundamentally a different person from herself, it follows therefore that it would be fundamentally unjust to require that she should be punished in a fashion that would make it impossible for her child not to directly partake of her punishment.
The principle that the child is a separate individual from the mother ought at all costs to be enshrined in the law; for it forms the basis of the view that the child is necessarily innocent of its mother's misdeeds.

i think if i am not wrong, she can ask for suspended sentence until the child is borned.
there are previous cases of such incidents.
Anyway in singapore prison , her condition will be under medical care type situation and most probably very light duty.
They will make provision for her condition.
