I would think that is a very relevant experience as it should allow him to build good rapport with the Japanese, especially their military and the emporer.
It is perhaps this type of experience that Kwan sorely lacks. -
Andrew Kuan never held office for an important role. His role as a Chief Finance Officer does not technically qualify.
Your nathan may be pap-elected but he at least director for several kachang-puteh co and organisations.

This has certainley been blow for us Singaporeans as we are once again denied our demorcratic right to vote. Those smart and successful people would also think twice before applying for the COE and put their integrity on the line. Leaving those "below average" folks that may take a chance to apply only to be eventually viewed as "jokers" when they get rejected based on whatever reasons...

So predictable, they(ministers) don't want anyone other than Nathan on the seat (its so obvious).
They need president like Nathan who submits to them, who dun question their policies and go against their policies. They're the unreputed puppet master.
They were afraid of appointing others which might do just that, so candidates who might jeopardize them gets backstab and scrutinized loh. -
Did anyone read TNP this afternoon? It said ANdrew Kuan has been a PAP man for the past 10 years and palns to quit the party soon.

Suffice to say, he was never important, nor was his role.
Vote or not, does not make a difference in the parliment.
