Diff b/w 2nd upper and 1st class honors in UNI

Hi, juz curious. Whats the difference in a 2nd upper honors and a 1st class honors? Is it juz the prestige of the cert or is there a genuine pay disparity cause i heard that 2nd upper and 1st class generally have the same pay. Not sure if its true. Any of you guys care to sahre your own thoughts or have friends who graduated with those honors care to share on their lifepath situations?..thanks.

1st class sounds nicer lah......
not same pay leh.....but not bery big diff oso lah.......depends on wat kinda organisation..... -
Matters more if you're planning to find employment in the government sector where they mainly see your grades as a measure of performance. Sad, but true.

The huge gap is between 2nd upper and 2nd lower...
Actually sadly quite a lot of companies in the private sector also see results only

work performance = grades obtained during course of study.
If you're hardworking, you would've scored better grades. So if you have stinky grades, what are the chances you're no slacker? -
What about comparing second lower honours, third class honours and degree with merit???

You know how taxi's stagger their midnight charges? Something like that, except 2=3=4=5 still applies.
Another thing is leave, let's say 14 days annual, one can carry over to the next year, the other cannot, make a guess who cannot. -

You mean above as in get hands dirty and do the job? Most academics very good at using mouth ask ppl do work. To them the knowledge that come out from their mouth is an indication of their superority and intelligence. As the saying goes the smart ppl use mouth the stupid ppl use hands hahahahhaa.....
So I roughly know those management ppl are what kind hahahhaha....
Abt grades, look at the career path for scholars in spore and you will know why govt mainly look at grades. How to determine a person can work if he/she has not worked before rite? So grades is the differentiating factor for fresh graduates. Not sure about non fresh graduates though but somehow I know wanna eat govt rice bowl better have good grades to impress be it fresh or non-fresh graduates -
doesn't apply to unis everywhere. as far as i know, in uk, if u finish your course, it is automatically considered an honours degree

academics usually do not have life/real experience and when they open mouth
its too theorical/ivory tower and next to impossible to implement.
EG: My former Director of Technology (DT) from MHA/ISD told me to build a SAN from scratch when there are solutions out there. With 3 tier, one in Tape, One in offline(almost online) disks and one online disk of tera bytes. And I have to do it within 30K or less budget. I laughted really hard (not in his face lah) and quitted the job.
Yea, good grades are important in civil service and even if if 1st class hon. Big deal. There is that presidential scholar whose path is laid out for him and anyone else will be sidelined no matter how good/skilled one is. I've moved into private sector cause I think it sucks that the civil service choose to be elitist (and the double talk we get from our ministers that we are meritocracy society). and btw, I am also an hons grad with masters now, but its really no big sh!t. -

Your above is referring to Direct Honours path? Sometimes one need to be in that faculty or school to understand how it works. For some it is everyone all study 4 yrs then based on your total CAG determine if you got honours or not. For some it is 3 yrs stop then determine who can get into honours for which they are to study 1 more year.
So the above there is a difference. I feel direct honours gives more leeway cuz some ppl are late bloomers mah hahahaha.... unfortunately i am in the second case -

Not any tom dick and harry can get in. its only by invitation where you are the 20% and you can apply to study another year. Otherwise, please stand one side. -
