  1. battery - lithium more compact, AA rechargables cheaper
  
  2. Memory - xd more compact, sd cheaper
  
  3. Video - if you like to take short video clips, look for one with 640x480 30fps video, but need to have large memory
  
  4.Pixels - 4M okayalready, 5M better, 6M make sure you have fast computer
  
  5.optical zoom - more the merrier
  
  happy with olympus, canon & fuji finepix. Nikon mid-range so-so. The rest dunno - never try before
