Are winner pre-marked?

Have you notice that in Major Sporting Event, particularly athletics and swimming events.
The winner usually come from lane 4,5 (ie. center) and seldom from the extreme lane. Do they purposely place potential winner in such a way for the camera or is it just a coincidence.

i have seen lane 1 or lane 2 emerging as winners leh......
after the heats, they can chou qian according to their placings.....
so the "potential winner" get to pick first
and dunno wat law hor......somehow always pick the middle numbers..... -
due to thermodynamics, they are positioned at lane 4 or 5... and usually they qualify with a better timing in the heats...

You are somewhat right. But what really happens is that the organisers/judges (or watever whoever u call them) will place the contestants with best timings in the middle ie. your lanes 4 & 5. This is for aesthetics cuz from an aerial view, upon finishing, it will look somewhat like a "V" shape. And in the finals, the runners are placed according to their times in the heats....
the fasteest runners are always placed in the middle lanes.... yeah it is for the V....
I think for swimmers also right? -

actually mid lane is the best, I know cuz I used to sprint, can see people on your left and right and motivate yourself to run faster.

How issit unfair? All contestants got in thru their own merit/effort. In wat sense issit rigged? The best are juz placed in the middle cuz they have the highest propensity to finish 1st which would translate to a higher propensity for a nice aerial shot depicting a "V" shape.Originally posted by TooFree: U sure? Hello....the top runner will be placed in the middle. This is deliberate. That's why u see the winner from the middle lane mostly.
I don't know whether it's for the V shape or not. I thought it's just to center the attention to the middle/ center and place the best runner there.
It's similar to tennis or badminton where the main center court will hold the match of the best players, and the side ones hold matches of other players. And when it's final, only the main center court is used, not one of the side ones.
It's all to direct and center the attention.
I suppose it won't be nice and kinda weird if u have to look at an extreme court and ignore the center court in front of u and all the rest of the courts.
I think this principle applies to many sports, including running, swimming, etc.
