Singapore is a westernised and developed country. But during the 7th lunar month, especially on the 1st and the last day, there are still many people burning paper money/gold, any comments?

Whoever said that being a christian is westernised is stupid in the first place, because first of all christianity started in middle-east,SECONDLY some forms of christianity like catholism is very conservative...I bet you some people will tell me that christianity started in america

I really wonder why u asked tis question during the chinese lunar july where every Chinese pray their respect to whoever they wans.
And as far as concern, burning things during this month is already not only a religion thingy but is also a culture of the Chinese who believes in the underworld. There's not 'why' for doing that, and its something that u shouldn't get involved into asking and please for godness sake, please please nver asked such a silly question again. Singaporean are still the evolution from the China and that's what makes Singaporean Chinese, Chinesesss.
Roots are nver to be forgotten and if u're one, you should really think back of what u have been doing all these years! -
