yes, there is a purpose. truth is that in order to take part in the economic boom in china, even our true-blooded HuaZhong students dont make the cut in cracking the business opportunities in china. you need the locals who understands the cultural nuiances, para-language and how things work in china. more chinese PRs means more human resources to make inroads to the nucleus of china opportunities, wealth gets created and delivered in SingaporeOriginally posted by Gackt247:I have no problems serving NS. In fact I'm supportive but of course, nothing beats sitting in front of the PC right now.
Abt foreign students. The hope is to create contacts with China for economic reasons. If we r lucky, or not to some singaporeans, some will decide to take up residency here. That's when their children will have to serve their NS. There is a reason for everything, whether it's relevant or not.
nope, I still think OUTSOURCE to other country is the BEST SOLUTION~!!Originally posted by terohoh:NS= waste of time. 1 year of training is good enough. Basically, when we're posted to our units, all we ever dream of is the weekend and to idle whenever we can.
And 16 year cycle. Great idea!Originally posted by terohoh:NS= waste of time. 1 year of training is good enough. Basically, when we're posted to our units, all we ever dream of is the weekend and to idle whenever we can.
The ICT cycle is good enough to shackle one to the country. Even if you take up permanent residency abroad, MinDef can still track you down through the Singapore embassies. You thought emigration meant unbridled freedom but you were wrong.Originally posted by ditzy:And 16 year cycle. Great idea!![]()
Now you know why people want to downgrade.Originally posted by iveco:The ICT cycle is good enough to shackle one to the country. To tell the truth, I prefer to look after the criminally insane than to pass my SOC. I injured my heel just before enlistment while playing a bit of football, but the medical corps didn't find it serious enough. Caused me lots of pain.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Now you know why people want to downgrade. And you see so many PES E wannabes.

i used to think its a waste if time...but blur blur i completed my 2 years and make it a habit to return and serve in camp on time every year after i ord...now new system complete 10 year cycle no need to serve oredi...just complete the extra 3 years low key and FFI and ROD! looking back........i wish i can serve BMT all over again!Originally posted by jianfish:Everyone knows NS is a necessary evil. I quite sure if there was no need there would not be NS.
However its the way that the govt handles and treats the NSF that irks me. Are we after all not citizens of singapore making the sacrifice?
Why then is so much money spent on attracting China students to study here?
Why isit that in school I see China students all around and in NS i can hardly find even one?
Where do they go after their state sponsered studies?
And why the poor pay? I mean if you increase the pay of NS men, is it not like sort of returning the money to the citizens of the country. Where is the loss of money then?
2years is not a short time. We are mentioning Years here, not months. Especially when we are not the privileged class that have parents in high places. Life is not so easy and I doubt those policy makers have gone through the life of just a man.
Do not blame us for being so Non-commital.
For the record, I am serving my NS.

Agreed. I mean no point arguing here.Originally posted by jianfish:Hmm... Then again no point complaining. Like the govt even cares.
Simply, have you ever felt that your life is simply wasted away in NS?
Everyone can say that after they ORD 'oh, last time actually not bad, learn alot and blah blah.' But then if I would to ask you to go back and serve again as a NSF are you going to tell me yes.? Do you even consider this scenario.
Btw, read that 20% of University students are Foreigners, are 20% of the SAF foreigners?
