Pros and Cons of different technologies
Each implementation of the magnetic levitation principle for train-type travel involves advantages and disadvantages. Time will tell as to which principle, and whose implementation, wins out commercially.
Technology Pros Cons
EMS (Electromagnetic) continuously suspended when power is provided; proven, commercially available technology narrow gap between track and vehicle; not inherently fail-safe
Superconducting EDS (Electrodynamic) systems large gap between track and vehicle currently (2005) reliant upon low-temperature superconductors that must be refrigerated with liquid helium; vehicle must be wheeled for travel at low speeds
'Inductrack' system failsafe; good suspension distance; no power required to be provided to the magnets new technology still under development (2005)
the last tech should be of interest. if it is feasible i Singapore, transport costs may go down -

and how much is the sunk cost that goes into stripping the current tracks and trains and bringing in the new trains, building the new tracks, retrofitting everything...
and then what the heck are we going to use to transport the people?

The cons outweigh the pros, if you don't mind forking out 10 bucks for a ride from AMK to orchard, sure by all means.

You want the train to travel at high speed for 30secs then start to slow down?(reaching nx destination very fast)
cost of maintance offsets the cost of current oil pricing and maontance of MRTs -
This technology wiill enable trains to cruise at 300mph. Eventually the cost will result in benefits of faster travel.

the speeds will not be needed here but still there are advantages, less dependence on crude oil. Form orchard to somerset they could just apply a slight force which will accelerate the train.
