do maids deserve one holiday per week?

Because of the muder incident some ppl began questioning whether they should have a 1 day break
of course wad..they come spore work...have to suffer from ~8-10 under someones command...have to endure scolding n stuff..
just beacuse of 1 incident n u ban maids from a holiday? liddat more crimes by maid since they r totally stressed out...
n oftenly maids go out to date, do stuff that household dont like to relieve their stress...if u prohibit them from a holiday..dont wad stuff they will do at home when they r completely stressed out..
really cant stand some household..they r humans leh need a break... why not u try work 7 days a week n see how u feel -

Last I heard, maids are human too.
I have one question to ask the employers: Do you work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year without getting a day off to relax?
Heck, I've even heard of employers who refuse to allow their maids to even leave the house for fear of 'getting the wrong ideas'! Even prisoners don't get solitary confinement if they're well-behaved!
We Singaporeans have an extremely poor record of taking care of our maids, sad to say. -

Its true that some maids go out and make trouble where they should not. But those are exceptions rather than norms. Out of the so many maids, what is the percentage that have gone astray?
And I find it extremely true that most Singaporeans do treat their maids badly. I overheard a lady wearing business wear looking refined chatting to her fren in a cafe and she says she scold her maid stupid because she broke a tray of eggs and went on to say she pay so much money to suffer and nag and nag. I nearly wanted to go over and spit at her but my friends stopped me.
Cmon, how much do u pay a maid? Seriously, if i were to pay a Singaporean that kind of pay, which Singaporean can take that kind of working hours and work?
I have a maid at home and we make sure the least we can do is to treat her as a human and let eat with us, watch TV with us after her work is done. She gets her day off but if we really need her on that day off, like all employers should do, we compensate her like as in doing OT.
I cant believe these people who says dun give day off. If you had a bad experience, fine, maybe u need some convincing but those who just wanna say something....please, try going overseas to work for years and leaving your family behind and tell me that the life of a maid is good. -

why they become maid in singapore? they will have better life if they work in uk etc...the angmohs usually treats maid better..singapore pays em peanut and make em work like hell..even the guys made da maid wash his CAR...no fuckin ballss...let women wash ur car for fuck

Maids are humans also...they should be given maybe 2 holiday a week....look at us singaporeans....Most of use have 2 holidays a week(weekends) why not them too?
It is the job of the employer and the agency to teach and educate the maids...the maids come from a faraway homes to work in a place that they probaly never heard of....its like being in a new country with new rules...they should be taught and allowed to mix around with the family.....
I know of some families dun allow the maids to eat with them...what stupid thing is this????
They are humans and have equal rights....i dun see why they are not allowed to eat with the family

best is dun have maid do the work yourself.
personal experiences tell me that maids are not very good la. i also dun like the idea of having outsiders living in my house. if really need help with housework, i rather employ those part time pple come clean my home. -

Have you ever wondered why indonesian maids are seldom given time off versus filipino maids who get the compulsory 1 day per week off??
Is it because the filipino maids demand work rights while the indo maids don't? Or because filipino maids are less likely to misbehave versus Indo maids who will misbehave?? -

list of atrocites/ stuff done by household that must be corrected
1) not allowed to eat with family, only eat leftovers
2)not having proper place to sleep in....no need a room herself ..just a decent bed with small cupboard...matress? dont tink so
3)not allowed to see tv tog after job finish..
4)no weekend break
5)no phone call..wtf ...a few its ok la...
6)excessive scolding,verbal criticism..of course mistakes scold a bit nvm..but most go overboard.. -

if i had a maid, i wud let her watch tv wiv the family, i wud let her hav the sunday free. if i wanted a drink, i wud go to the kitchen and get it myself.
singaporeans tend to "want" to be "superior" once they have the means to.

Firstly.. like us.. maids are humans too.. and they do not work from 9 to 6.. but longer hours than us... and getting paid peanuts... i really mean peanuts...not 600K....they should really be given some rest time..
BUT......
when they go out...... all kinda stuffs happens....like what that was mentioned earlier on by another fellow forumer...
Maybe thats why employers would rather vote to keep their maids at home.. to avoid any unecessary trouble...e.g police come knocking at ur door, telling you, ur maid is suspected of murdering another maid, in YOUR house. -
There is a reason why they are called MAIDS. Blame no one..but urselves ! If u can do ur chores urself..none of this will happen. The poor souls wouldve continued thier pitiful existence back in Indo doing meager earnings..but thanks to the modern SG girls who cant cook n clean... he he... they get hired to live in nice government flats n in the Developed City of Singapore. This little haven..
I say no holidays for them. They are already lucky enough to be living n earning SG dollars. Of course if u treat them inhumanely..its like dogs... u guys all seen Danny the Dog ? hehehee...something like that.. sooner or later..they gonna bite ur ass~ -
Just for info, the average maid or foreign worker hired from their country to do the work that Singapore dreads to do are getting around 500 a month and you want to deprive them a off day per week?
