  why wantan mee is called wantan mee, n not char siew mee? coz in wantan mee, also got char siew ma.... how come ah??

  cos the wan ton that comes with the mee is wan ton. so in actual fact, you should ask, "why is the wan ton that comes with wan ton mee called wanton, since it contains pork. why dun we call it pork dumpling mee instead."

  cos wantan mee got wantan and char siew inside got wantan mee which has char siew made from wantan so mee got char siew and wantan got mee that has wantan inside the wantan mee therefore wantan mee is called wantan mee and char siew mee is called wantan char siew me...

  Give that guy a break. Although some of his questions sounds silly but some actually do make some sense and make us reflect why we use such terms on that item. Isit historical? Issit cultural etc etc..... Sometimes we just take for granted the name we are so used in spore.
  
  The same dish in other country may not be called the same as we use locally. But I do admit some of his questions are just plain bo liao but I like it cuz it help to liven up the forum just like hogan rock last time

  Wanton Mee initially did not come with Char Siew. That is why if you order this in Hong Kong, or any chinese restaurant like Crystal Jade, they only give you wanton with the mee and maybe a bit veggie (HK one dun have veggie).
  
  But in the 1950s, a street side hawker came up with this because a lot of his customers asked to add char siew in the wanton mee. So he decided to add char siew in every bowl of noodles unless the customer say dun wan. Slowly all the other hawkers also do the same.
  
  That is why only in Singapore, you see wanton mee comes with char siew one.
